Supramolecular metallogels combine the rheological properties of gels with the color, magnetism, and other properties of metal ions. Lanthanide ions such as Eu(III) can be valuable components of metallogels due to their fascinating luminescence. In this work, we combine Eu(III) and iminodiacetic acid (IDA) into luminescent hydrogels. We investigate the tailoring of the rheological properties of these gels by changes in their metal:ligand ratio. Further, we use the highly sensitive Eu(III) luminescence to obtain information about the chemical structure of the materials...

OBJECTIVE: Acinetobacter baumannii ( A. baumannii , AB) represents a major species of Gram-negative bacteria involved in bloodstream infections (BSIs) and shows a high capability of developing antibiotic resistance. Especially, carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) becomes more and more prevalent in BSIs. Hence, a rapid and sensitive CRAB detection method is of urgent need to reduce the morbidity and mortality due to CRAB-associated BSIs. METHODS: A dual droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) reaction system was designed for detecting the antibiotic resistance gene OXA-23 and AB-specific gene gltA ...

The draft genome consisted of 111 contigs with a total size of 6,784,206 base pairs, an N50 of 209,424 base pairs, and a GC content of 65.85%. The dDDH value between WO7 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa DSM 50071T was determined to be 90...

The title compound, C14 H12 N4 O2 ·0.5HCl·H2 O or H(C14 H12 N4 O2 )2 + ·Cl- ·2H2 O, arose from the unexpected cyclization of isonicotinoyl- N -phenyl hydrazine carbo-thio-amide catalysed by cobalt(II) acetate. The organic mol-ecule is almost planar and a symmetric N⋯H+ ⋯N hydrogen bond links two of them together, with the H atom lying on a crystallographic twofold axis. The extended structure features N-H⋯O and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, which generate [001] chains...

Carbapenemase-producing gram-negative bacteria (CP-GNB) infections threaten public health with high mortality, morbidity and treatment costs. Although frequencies remain low in Australia (total number of CP-GNB infections reported was 907 in 2022), blaIMP-4 has established low levels of endemicity in many states. Imipenemase metallo-β-lactamase types alone accounted for more than half of all carbapenemases in carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales isolates in Australia, particularly in Enterobacter cloacae complex...

BACKGROUND: Danggui Sini decoction (DSD), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, has the function of nourishing blood, warming meridians, and unblocking collaterals. Our clinical and animal studies had shown that DSD can effectively protect against oxaliplatin (OXA)-induced peripheral neuropathy (OIPN), but the detailed mechanisms remain uncertain. Multiple studies have confirmed that gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the development of OIPN. In this study, the potential mechanism of protective effect of DSD against OIPN by regulating gut microbiota was investigated...

In 2019-2022, a prolonged outbreak of oxacillinase (OXA)-48-producing Citrobacter farmeri due to a persistent environmental contamination, occurred in our haematology intensive care unit. In April 2019, we isolated OXA-48-producing C. farmeri from rectal samples of two patients in weekly screenings. The cases had stayed in the same hospital room but 4 months apart. We screened five patients who had stayed in this room between the two cases and identified a third case. Over the following 3 years, five other cases were detected, the last case in September 2022...

Increased surveillance through next-generation sequencing (NGS) or whole genome sequencing (WGS) could facilitate the study of the epidemiology of drug-resistant bacterial strains, resistance genes, and other virulence determinants they are potentially carrying. While the role of mitochondrial membrane remodeling in promoting inflammation in hepatocytes is well-established, its effects on tumors have remained unclear. In this study, we designed a novel Pt(IV) complex, OAP2, which is composed of oxaliplatin (Oxa) and acetaminophen (APAP), to enhance its anti-tumor effects and amplify the immune response...

Radiotherapy (RT) is one of the most feasible and routinely used therapeutic modalities for treating malignant tumors. In particular, immune responses triggered by RT, known as radio-immunotherapy, can partially inhibit the growth of distantly spreading tumors and recurrent tumors. However, the safety and efficacy of radio-immunotherapy is impeded by the radio-resistance and poor immunogenicity of tumor. Herein, we report oxaliplatin (IV)-iron bimetallic nanoparticles (OXA/Fe NPs) as cascade sensitizing amplifiers for low-dose and robust radio-immunotherapy...

Herein, an organocatalytic asymmetric dearomative spirocyclization/oxa-Michael addition sequence with a newly designed substrate having two naphthol motifs has been developed. The reaction proceeds through in situ chiral vinylidene ortho -quinone methide (VQM) intermediate formation, dearomative spirocyclization of naphthol, and an oxa-Michael addition reaction. The densely functionalized tetralone products were formed in high yields with high diastereo- and enantioselectivities.

The intramolecular Stetter reaction catalyzed by a carbene is investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and kinetic simulations. Catalyst 1 first reacts with aldehyde 2 to give the primary adduct (PA). The PA undergoes the intramolecular oxa-Michael reaction to irreversibly generate enol ether intermediate 9. The conversion of the enol ether to the Breslow intermediate (BI) requires the assistance of a base such as the PA. The next step involves formation of a carbon-carbon bond through the Michael addition, and expulsion of the catalyst generates the Stetter product 7...
