AIM: Endometriosis is a commun health disorder in women, which is defined as the presence of bowel endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. Bowel endometriosis occurs in approximately10% pf all cases, with ileal localization as a very rare clinical intestinal occlusion:acute intestinal obstruction is possible presentation of this disease. We report a case of a patient with known history of Crohn's treated with ileal resection for acute intestinal occlusion;histology showed the coexistence of IBD and endometriosis in the intestinal wall...

BACKGROUND: The assessment of the adequacy of fetal growth by parameters other than the abdominal anteroposterior diameter (AAPD) of the fetus has been studied extensively. However the designs of these studies and the statistical methods used appears to deserve some criticism, based on present knowledge. Noncross-sectional cases selection, uncertainty of the fetal normality and inadequacy in statistical method, mostly ignored the changing property of each standard deviation (SD) of each gestational age (GA) which was proposed by Altman et...

Between 1949 and 1968, 1369 female patients received primary treatment for breast cancer in the Robert-Rössle-Clinic of the Central Institute for Cancer Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. Using a sequential procedure based on decision theory, the influence of menopause on prognosis of breast cancer was investigated in clinical stage I--III. The following rank order of negative prognostic signs was found in the 365 patients of 46-55 years age (5-year survival rate in braquets): skin involved beyond breast (0%); inflammatory type of cancer (0%); fixation of chest wall (0%); radiation treatment only (10%); tumor diameter in surgical specimen 5 cm and more (26%); tumor diameter 10+ cm by clinical examination (31%); skin ulceration (0%); axillary lymph nodes considered to contain growth (40%); menopause (59...

Danazol, an impeded androgen with moderate antigonadotropin properties, was administered to 58 patients with a variety of benign breast disorders. The disturbances were present from 3 months to 20 years; the ages ranged from 21 to 50 years. The dose varied from 100 to 400 mg. per day for 74 to 310 days, depending upon the severity of the disorder. Most of the patients had favorable responses: 44 (75.8 per cent) experienced complete relief of subjective discomfort with disappearance of clinical signs; 17 (65...
