Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is a heterogeneous clinical and biochemical entity. We present the case of a young male with history of venous thromboembolism. This time he presents because of chest ischemic pain associated with ST segment elevation. He was taken to the cath lab to perform a primary percutaneous coronary intervention and a total occlusion of the left anterior descending artery was noted. Successful thrombus aspiration was performed. No stent was deployed. He was taken to the cath lab for a second look angiography and no atherosclerotic lesions were observed, which was confirmed by intravascular ultrasound...

BACKGROUND: Abdominal pain is present in the vast majority of patients with chronic pancreatitis, being frequently debilitating. Celiac plexus block (CPB) is an interventional technique that can be considered to provide a temporary pain relief. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the effectiveness and safeness of endoscopic-ultrasound (EUS) comparing with percutaneous-guided CBP in patients with pancreatic pain. METHODS: A systematic review of English and non-English articles using MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS and COCHRANE (via BVS)...

OBJECTIVE: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has become an important imaging modality for the diagnosis, staging and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. However, no official data exists regarding clinical EUS practice in Latin America (LA). This study assessed current EUS practice and training. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A direct mail survey questionnaire was sent to 268 Capítulo Latino Americano de Ultrasonido Endoscópico members between August 2012 and January 2013...

BACKGROUND: Invasive prenatal diagnosis (IPD) allows identification of fetal diseases, mainly aneuploidy. With the addition of first-trimester prenatal screening and structural ultrasound, IPD indications have changed. OBJECTIVE: To describe the current indications for IPD in pregnant patients at INPer. METHODS: Descriptive and retrospective study. We reviewed medical records of patients in which IPD was performed during a period of 2.5 years...

CONTEXT: In recent years, a large number of techniques have been developed to estimate the bone mineral density for the diagnosis of osteoporosis. However, diagnostic criteria established by WHO are invariably applied for the interpretation of dual radiological densitometry (DEXA), which could not be correct in the case of the interpretation of ultrasound. METHOD: We studied 2,589 randomly chosen people of both sexes, 1,138 males and 1,451 women from 10 to 99 years, in 11 spanish provinces...
