Gall bladder diaphragm is a rare congenital malformation of the gall bladder, entailing its segmentation in several chambers. Functioning as a non-return valve, it interferes with drainage, leading to gallstone formation and cholecystitis. We are reporting a rare case of acute cholecystitis with a double vesicular diaphragm.

BACKGROUND: Radioligand therapy using alpha emitters has gained more and more prominence in the last decade. Despite continued efforts to identify new appropriate radionuclides, the combination of 225 Ac/213 Bi remains among the most promising. Bismuth-213 has been employed in clinical trials in combination with appropriate vectors to treat patients with various forms of cancer, such as leukaemia, bladder cancer, neuroendocrine tumours, melanomas, gliomas, or lymphomas. However, the half-life of 213 Bi (T½  = 46 min) implies that its availability for clinical use is limited to hospitals possessing a 225 Ac/213 Bi radionuclide generator, which is still predominantly scarce...

The urea transporter UT-B1, encoded by the SLC14A1 gene, has been hypothesized to be a significant protein whose deficiency and dysfunction contribute to the pathogenesis of bladder cancer and many other diseases. Several studies reported the association of genetic alterations in the SLC14A1 (UT-B1) gene with bladder carcinogenesis, suggesting a need for thorough characterization of the UT-B1 protein's coding and non-coding variants. This study used various computational techniques to investigate the commonly occurring germ-line missense and non-coding SNPs (ncSNPs) of the SLC14A1 gene (UT-B1) for their structural, functional, and molecular implications for disease susceptibility and dysfunctionality...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) carries a significant risk of ejaculation dysfunction. Preservation of antegrade ejaculation while providing effective, well tolerated, and durable treatment of BPH is a paramount component of physical and sexual well being for significant number of men. We reviewed available literature with an aim of providing status on antegrade ejaculation preserving BPH surgical therapies. RECENT FINDINGS: Minimally invasive surgical therapies for BPH have been developed over the last decade, with significant marketing emphasis on their potential for preservation of antegrade ejaculation...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Most patients with neurourological disorders require lifelong medical care. The European Association of Urology (EAU) regularly updates guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of these patients. The objective of this review is to provide a summary of the 2024 updated EAU guidelines on neurourology. METHODS: A structured literature review covering the timeframe 2021-2023 was conducted for the guideline update. A level of evidence and a strength rating were assigned for each recommendation on the basis of the literature data...

Autophagy, a self-digestion mechanism, has emerged as a promising target in the realm of cancer therapy, particularly in bladder cancer (BCa), a urological malignancy characterized by dysregulated biological processes contributing to its progression. This highly conserved catabolic mechanism exhibits aberrant activation in pathological events, prominently featured in human cancers. The nuanced role of autophagy in cancer has been unveiled as a double-edged sword, capable of functioning as both a pro-survival and pro-death mechanism in a context-dependent manner...

Kidneys are critical in the clearance and maintenance of active metabolites. One of the medical properties of Salep is treating bladder and kidney inflammation. Due to the widespread use of Salep in traditional medicine and the food industry, and since the effects of Salep on kidney function have not been studied, the present study aimed to investigate the impact of Salep on kidney function. In this experimental study, 48 male rats were divided randomly into six groups as control, sham, and four experimental groups receiving different doses of Salep intraperitoneally (80, 160, 320, and 640 mg/kg)...

BACKGROUND: Current automated planning solutions are calibrated using trial and error or machine learning on historical datasets. Neither method allows for the intuitive exploration of differing trade-off options during calibration, which may aid in ensuring automated solutions align with clinical preference. Pareto navigation provides this functionality and offers a potential calibration alternative. The purpose of this study was to validate an automated radiotherapy planning solution with a novel multi-dimensional Pareto navigation calibration interface across two external institutions for prostate cancer...

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury (SCI) can result in structural and functional damage to the spinal cord, which may lead to loss of limb movement and sensation, loss of bowel and bladder control, and other complications. Previous studies have revealed the critical influence of trans-acting transcription factor 1 (SP1) in neurological pathologies, however, its role and mechanism in SCI have not been fully studied. The swim bladder in some teleost fish functions to transfer the sound energy of acoustic stimuli to the inner ears. This study uses the auditory evoked potential tests, micro-computed tomography scanning, reconstruction, and numerical modeling to assess the contribution of the swim bladder to hearing in crucian carp (Carassius carassius). The auditory evoked potential results show that, at the tested frequency range, the audiogram of fish with an intact swim bladder linearly increases, ranging from 100 to 600 Hz...

INTRODUCTION: Although antibiotic prophylaxis (AB) demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in bacteriuria after invasive urodynamics (UDS), no significant decrease in the incidence of urinary tract infections (UTI) has been confirmed. No absolute recommendations on the use of AB in case of relevant potential risk of UTI have been reported, though some categories of patients at increased infective probability after UDS have been recognized. The aim of this study is to report the experts' consensus on the best practice for the use of AB before UDS in the main categories of patients at potential risk of developing UTI...

A 31-year-old female sought termination of pregnancy due to a fetal body stalk anomaly diagnosed at 18 weeks of gestation. Despite an anterior placenta previa, successful vaginal delivery occurred. However, placental adhesion over a previous cesarean scar occurred, and part of the placenta could not be removed. Immediate postpartum bleeding prompted imaging studies, revealing extravasation from adherent placental remnants. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) provided initial hemostasis, but recurrent bleeding necessitated re-embolization...
