Tremor is a common symptom shared in both Parkinson's disease (PD) and Essential tremor (ET) subjects. The differential diagnosis of PD and ET tremor is important since the realization of treatment depends on specific medication. A novel feature is developed based on a hypothesis that tremor of PD subject has a larger fluctuation during resting than action task. Tremor signal is collected using a triaxial gyroscope sensor attached to subject's finger during kinetic and resting task. Firstly, the representative SIFT features are extracted from brain template as the basic visual words. In this feasibility study, we present a novel, wearable prototype of tactile biofeedback to alleviate gait disturbances, such as freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. We designed and tested a phase-dependent tactile biofeedback system that can be easily worn on the feet, with a simple switch to turn it on or off. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been used as a treatment of brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease and is a promising therapy for epilepsy. But the mechanisms of high frequency stimulation (HFS) used by DBS are still uncertain. In order to investigate the changes of action penitential firings of individual neurons (single unit activity, SUA) during the period of HFS, a new algorithm based on window detection was designed to detect spikes in broadband-frequency recording signals. Synchrony patterns between the EEG measured from the subthalamic nucleus and scalp are analyzed during induction of propofol anesthesia. Various methods such as Coherence, Phase Locking Value, Partial Directed Coherence, Mutual Information, and Transfer Entropy are applied. The results indicate that, in general, the synchrony patterns seen in the depth-scalp electrode pair are similar to those seen between two scalp electrodes of opposite hemispheres. A silicon neural probe fabricated using a deep reactive ion etching based process on 250 μm thin silicon wafers was developed. In this paper, a method for the assessment of the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating scale (UPDRS) related to tremor is presented. The method described consists of hand resting and posture state detection, tremor detection and tremor quantification based on accelerometer and gyroscope readings from a wrist worn sensor. The initial results on PD patient recordings on home environment indicate the feasibility of the proposed method in monitoring UPDRS tremor in patient home environment.

In this paper, we propose a computational framework using high-dimensional shape descriptors of reconstructed attractors of center-of-pressure (CoP) tracings collected from subjects with Parkinson's disease while performing dynamical posture shifts, to quantitatively assess balance impairment. Using a dataset collected from 60 subjects, we demonstrated that the proposed method outperforms traditional methods, such as dynamical shift indices and use of chaotic invariants, in assessment of balance impairment.

There is no standard diagnostic test for Parkinson's Disease. In this paper, we propose a data mining based statistical diagnostic method towards a standard and accurate diagnostic test. The result shows the proposed regression formula, which only requires patient's stride data, can provide a 90% accuracy to diagnose PD patients.
