Sándor Cseresnyés born on 15th September 1786 was one of the physicians of the first half of 19th century who efficiently practised in several scopes of activity. Having finished his studies at the college of Sárospatak he undertook family tutorship. In the autumn of 1814 he enrolled in the Medical Faculty for University of Pest together with his friend László Ungvárnémeti-Tóth, a poet writing his poems in Hungarian and Greek. OBJECTIVES: Non Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is a frecuent tumor in the ENT field althougt there are not too many publications with a large number of patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We have studied 300 patiens with NHL and analysed the head and neck affectation, the presence in Waldeyer's ring, the first symptoms and the stage of the disease. We have evaluated the patients that were referred to the referencie hospital from the emergency service of our health center between July 1, 1988, and June 31, 1989, and we have followed them up after their arrival to the hospital. We had cared for 20,546 emergencies, particularly from internal medicine, pediatrics and pediatric surgery, traumatology, plastic surgery and neurosurgery. 636 of these were referred (3.09%), with varying rates for specialities, from 7.1% in gynecology to 0% in dermatology.
