We study chaotic dynamics and anomalous transport in a Bose-Hubbard chain in the semiclassical regime (the limit when the number of particles goes to infinity). We find that the system has mixed phase space with both regular and chaotic dynamics, even for long chains with up to 100 wells. The consequence of the mixed phase space is strongly anomalous diffusion in the space of occupation numbers, with a discrete set of transport exponents. After very long times the system crosses over to the hydrodynamic regime with normal diffusion...

Systems featuring hard-core-soft-shell repulsive pair potentials can form ordered phases, where particles organize themselves in aggregates with nontrivial geometries. The dimer crystal formed by one such potential, namely, the hard-core plus generalized exponential model of order 4, has been recently investigated, revealing a low-temperature structural phase transition, with the onset of nematic ordering of the dimers. In the present work, we aim to characterize this phase transition via a mean-field theory, by which a detailed analysis of the low-temperature properties of the system is carried out under quadrupole approximation...

It is expected that the energy-diffusion propagator in a one-dimensional nonlinear lattice with three conserved quantities: energy, momentum, and stretch, consists of a central heat mode and two sound modes. The heat mode follows a Lévy distribution. Consequently, the heat diffusion is super, i.e., the second moment of the diffusion propagator diverges as t^{β} with β>1; and the heat conduction is anomalous, i.e., the heat conductivity is size dependent and diverges with size N by N^{α}, with α>0...

Swarming behavior in systems of self-propelled particles, whether biological or artificial, has received increased attention in recent years. Here, we show that even a small number of particles with anomalous behavior can change dramatically collective dynamics of the swarming system and can impose unusual behavior and transitions between dynamic states. Our results pave the way to practical approaches and concepts of multiagent dynamics in groups of flocking animals: birds, insects, and fish, i.e., active and living soft matter...

Anomalous aortic origin of the left coronary artery (AAOLCA) confers high risk for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). This series aims to describe consecutive admissions with interarterial AAOLCA presenting with SCA and distinct clinical trajectories. An eight-year-old boy collapsed at school and received 10-min of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation prior to return of spontaneous circulation. He had no end-organ dysfunction and underwent uneventful coronary unroofing. In contrast, a 14-year-old boy presented with collapse while jogging...

There are many reports on the positional relationship between the ileocolic artery and superior mesenteric vein (SMV). However, there have been no reports of anomalous venous confluence in the ileocecal vessel area. A 69-year-old man was diagnosed with cecal cancer on a preoperative examination of a lung tumor. We planned to perform surgery for the cecal cancer. Computed tomography angiography revealed an anomalous vein confluence in the ileocolic region. We performed robot-assisted ileocecal resection. Although the small intestinal vein was misidentified as the SMV at first, we confirmed the misidentification, identified the SMV on the dorsal side of the ileocolic artery, and ligated the ileocolic vessels with precise forceps manipulation during robotic surgery...

Lamb-Shaffer syndrome (LSS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder, genetically diagnosed in fewer than 100 individuals worldwide. We present a case series of 6 pediatric patients with LSS and describe its ophthalmic manifestations. Strabismus was present in 5 patients, with exotropia being most common. All subjects had significant refractive errors; 5 had astigmatism of at least 2 D. All patients had optic nerve abnormalities, including pallor (4), hypoplasia (2), and anomalous appearance (1), with retinal nerve fiber layer thinning demonstrated in a single subject...

Transition metal nanoclusters can exhibit unique and tunable properties which result not only from their chemical composition but also from their atomic packing and quantized electronic structures. Here, we introduce a promising family of bimetallic TM@Ti12 , TM@Zr12 , and TM@Hf12 nanoclusters with icosahedral geometry, where TM represents an atom from groups 3 to 12. Density functional theory calculations show that their stability can be explained with familiar concepts of metal cluster electronic and atomic shell structures...

Accurate prediction of cumulative COVID-19 infected cases is essential for effectively managing the limited healthcare resources in India. Historically, epidemiological models have helped in controlling such epidemics. Models require accurate historical data to predict future outcomes. In our data, there were days exhibiting erratic, apparently anomalous jumps and drops in the number of daily reported COVID-19 infected cases that did not conform with the overall trend. Including those observations in the training data would most likely worsen model predictive accuracy...

Anomalous expression of potassium channels in cancer tissues is associated with several cancer hallmarks that support deregulated proliferation and tumor progression. Ion channels seem to influence cell proliferation; however, the crucial molecular mechanisms involved remain elusive. Some results show how extracellular mitogenic signals modulate ion channel activity through intracellular secondary messengers. It is relevant because we are beginning to understand how potassium channels can affect the proliferative capacity of cells, either in normal mitogen-dependent proliferation or in mitogen-unresponsive proliferation...

Recent advances in the manipulation of the orbital angular momentum (OAM) within the paradigm of orbitronics presents a promising avenue for the design of future electronic devices. In this context, the recently observed orbital Hall effect (OHE) occupies a special place. Here, focusing on both the second-order topological and quantum anomalous Hall insulators in two-dimensional ferromagnets, we demonstrate that topological phase transitions present an efficient and straightforward way to engineer the OHE, where the OAM distribution can be controlled by the nature of the band inversion...

Antiferromagnets hosting structural or magnetic order that breaks time reversal symmetry are of increasing interest for "beyond von Neumann" computing applications because the topology of their band structure allows for intrinsic physical properties, exploitable in integrated memory and logic function. One such group are the non-collinear antiferromagnets. Essential for domain manipulation is the existence of small net moments found routinely when the material is synthesised in thin film form and attributed to symmetry-breaking caused by spin canting, either from the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction or from strain...

Single-layer half-metal magnets offer exciting scope in spin electronic quantum applications owing to improved spin transport, reduced interfacial resistance and streamlined device fabrication. The metallic monolayers 1T-NbSe2 and 1T-VSe2 laterally interfaced along the zigzag orientation break inversion symmetry at the interface and result in distinctive Berry curvature features...

It is both conceptually and practically fascinating to explore fundamental research studies and practical applications of two-dimensional systems with the tunable abundant valley Hall effect. In this work, based on first-principles calculations, the tunable abundant valley Hall effect is proved to appear in Janus monolayer VCGeN4 . When the magnetization is along the out-of-plane direction, VCGeN4 is an intrinsic ferromagnetic semiconductor with a valley feature. The intriguing spontaneous valley polarization exists in VCGeN4 due to the common influence of broken inversion and time-reversal symmetries, which makes it easier to realize the anomalous valley Hall effect...
