Under out-patient conditions 13 testicular endotheses of silicone rubber were implanted in local anaesthesia. The mean age of the 11 patients was 44.6 years and minimum follow-up was one year. In all but one case the clinical course was uneventful, in this patient the prosthesis was rejected after a secondary intervention. The follow-up examination did show in all cases clinical, ultrasonographical and cosmetical good results with the 14 g variant for the adult patient. This prosthesis is recommended the further use because of low operative risk, uneventful follow-up and improved body image...

Results with a deflatable anatomically designed Endothesis for the reduction of fractures of the antral walls, especially the orbital floor. For the treatment of the fractures of the antral walls, especially of the extended fractures of the orbital floor, after repositioning through the maxillary sinus, treatment is necessary which supports the maxillary sinus and which, being effective in all directions, protects the ciliated epithelium and guaranties the drainage of secretions. After anatomical preexaminations three differently large hollow models for the maxillary sinus made of thin-walled silicon were developed...

These is shown in this paper the literature review and author's studies on the in vitro and in vivo ageing changes in plastic endotheses under certain conditions. The changes occurring in endotheses exposed to no major mechanical loads were considered in particular. Polyamides, polyethylene derivatives, polyesters, polyurethanes and silicone rubbers were found to belong to the polymers unstable under biological conditions.olyesters, polyurethanes and silicone rubbers were found to belong to the polymers unstable under biological conditions...

A biostability test program was designed after evaluation of the relevant literature on in vivo aging phenomena in plastics and elastomers. The program comprised macroscopic, microscopic, mechanical, and physicochemical investigations. Five silicone rubbers, one polyester, and one polyamid were tested as to their aging behavior and their suitability for long-term implantation in the human body was assessed. In order to be able to state the applicability of materials used for endotheses, the various aging phenomena had to be divided into three groups, viz...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
P Buntrock, E Roggendorf
Extended trials were carried out on the purpose of finding optimal silicone rubber materials for endotheses, among others macroscopical and microscopical examinations of local compatibility after implantation in rats and dogs. Short-term experiments on 7 kinds of silicone rubber (VEB Chemiewerk Nünchritz) showed that subcutaneous and intramuscular implantation was well tolerated by rats. Optimal terms for removal were the 7th and the 28th day. Long-term trials of 4 kinds of silicone rubber in rats and dogs up to 1 year yielded no significantly different results compared with control materials from the Dow Corning Corporation...

The number of late complications after tracheostomy has increased due to new indications especially reanimation. Tracheal stenosis is the most severe complication. Its treatment by resection and end to end anastomosis, tracheopexy, plastic reconstruction or by endotheses is discussed. The operative technique of these procedures is difficult, the result not always satisfying.
