UNLABELLED: Ramipril (Altace)Use of tradenames is for product identification purposes only and does not imply endorsement.), an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, is a prodrug which is rapidly hydrolyzed after absorption to the active metabolite ramiprilat. Earlier trials have shown that ACE inhibitors, when given to patients with low ejection fractions, have reduced the relative risk of myocardial infarction (MI) and other ischemic events by 14-23%. Subsequently, the double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter Heart Outcomes Prevention Evaluation (HOPE) study has shown that, in patients who are not known to have low ejection fraction or heart failure but are at increased risk for developing cardiovascular events, ramipril reduced the incidence of stroke, MI and death due to cardiovascular disease...

The development and validation of a reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method for the determination of the related substances of 2-[N-[(S)-1-Ethoxycarbonyl-3-phenylpropyl]-L-alanyl]-(1S, 3S, 5S)-2-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-3-carboxylic acid (ramipril) in Altace capsules is described. The method utilizes an ion-pairing agent and a simple two-step gradient for the separation of ramipril and ten related substances from each other in a 40-min run time. Four of the related substances are ramipril diastereomers...

A postmarketing surveillance study was undertaken to confirm the efficacy and safety of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor ramipril and to extend the findings of controlled clinical trials into real-world conditions. A total of 11,100 patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension treated by primary care physicians were enrolled in this 8-week, open-label study. Ramipril was usually initiated at a dosage of 2.5 mg once daily and titrated to achieve target blood pressure. Efficacy was assessed in 8261 patients for whom blood pressure data were recorded after the start of treatment: safety was assessed in all patients...

It has been suggested that certain tissue types are associated with different clinical manifestations of Behçet's disease in Japan and England. Regional differences in the associations between HLA antigens and Behçet's disease have been established. We tissue type 119 patients with Behçet's disease in Istanbul and attempted to correlate various clinical manifestations with HLA antigens. The frequency of only one tissue antigen, HLA-B5, was found to be increased in these series. HLA-B5 was present in 94 of 119 patients (77%) compared to 89 of 268 controls (33%), P less than 0...

A prospective study of arthritis was performed in 47 patients with Behçet's disease followed up over a 47-month period (mean 19.25 months, SD 14.09). These patients had a total of 80 episodes of arthritis, which were analysed for joint distribution and symmetry, in 56 of which the duration could also be determined. Attacks were oligoarticular, affecting up to 4 joints per patient, 54 (68%) being monoarticular. Knees, ankles, and wrists were the most commonly involved joints. Involvement of spinal, shoulder, hip, and sacroiliac joints was rare...
