BACKGROUND: Repeated number of passes, clot fragmentation, and distal embolization during mechanical thrombectomy (MT) lead to worse clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke. This study aimed to assess the recanalization and embolic outcomes of different stent-retrievers (SRs): open-tip SR (Solitaire X 6×40 mm), closed-tip SR (EmboTrap II 5×33 mm), and filter-tip SR (NeVa NET 5.5×37 mm). METHODS: Stiff-friable clot analogs were used to create middle cerebral artery (M1-MCA) occlusions in a benchtop model...

BACKGROUND: The Catfish stent retriever is a newly developed mechanical thrombectomy device for rapid recanalisation in emergent large vessel occlusion (ELVO) stroke. The current trial aimed to assess whether the Catfish stent retriever is non-inferior to the Solitaire stent retriever in terms of outcomes in ELVO stroke. METHODS: This was a randomised, prospective, parallel-group, multicentre, open-label, non-inferiority study conducted at 18 sites in China. The primary outcome was the proportion of cases with successful recanalisation (modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction score of 2b or 3) following the procedure...

Aim: Stent-retriever (SR) thrombectomy has demonstrated superior outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke compared with medical management alone, but differences among SRs remain unexplored. We conducted a Systematic Review/Meta-Analysis to compare outcomes between three SRs: EmboTrap® , Solitaire™, and Trevo® . Methods: We conducted a PRISMA-compliant Systematic Review among English-language studies published after 2014 in PubMed/MEDLINE that reported SRs in ≥25 patients. Functional and safety outcomes included 90-day modified Rankin scale (mRS 0-2), mortality, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and embolization to new territory (ENT)...

BACKGROUND: Little is known on the role of mismatch profile in patients undergoing early endovascular treatment (EVT). We aimed to describe pretreatment perfusion parameters and mismatch profiles in anterior circulation large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke undergoing EVT in the early time window and assess their association with time from stroke onset and outcomes. METHODS: Retrospective single-center study, including early (<6 hours) EVT-treated large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke with baseline perfusion data, assessing perfusion parameters (ischemic core volume, mismatch volume and mismatch ratio) and mismatch profiles (favorable versus unfavorable, based on criteria adopted in EXTEND-IA [Extending the Time for Thrombolysis in Emergency Neurological Deficits - Intra-Arterial], SWIFT PRIME [Solitaire With the Intention for Thrombectomy as Primary Endovascular Treatment], DEFUSE 3 [Endovascular Therapy Following Imaging Evaluation for Ischemic Stroke 3], and DAWN [Clinical Mismatch in the Triage of Wake Up and Late Presenting Strokes Undergoing Neurointervention With Trevo] trials)...

In four experiments we investigated the Solitaire illusion. In this illusion, most observers see as more numerous a set of dots that forms a single central group, compared to dots on the outside of that group. We confirmed and extended the effect to configurations with much higher numerosity than the original and of various colours. Contrary to prediction, separating the two groups, so that they are presented side by side, reduced but did not abolish or reverse the illusion. In this illusion, therefore, neither total size of the region (area), not average distance of the elements has the expected effect...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Stent retriever thrombectomy is the standard therapeutic approach for ischemic stroke with acute large-vessel occlusion. This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of a new thrombectomy device (Skyflow) in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: After an arterial occlusion model was established, stent-retriever thrombectomy was performed. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and autopsy were carried out immediately after thrombectomy in six animals in the acute experimental group...

OBJECTIVES: Subvalvular aortic stenosis (SAS) can occur as discrete or tunnel-like obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract and as progressive disease often leads to aortic valve regurgitation. We report our 30-year single-center experience after surgical repair of SAS. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of all patients aged < 18 years, who underwent surgical repair of SAS from May 1985 to April 2020, was conducted. BACKGROUND: A potential benefit of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) before mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is pre-interventional reperfusion. Currently, there are few data on the occurrence of pre-interventional reperfusion in patients randomized to IVT or no IVT before MT. METHODS: SWIFT DIRECT (Solitaire With the Intention For Thrombectomy Plus Intravenous t-PA vs DIRECT Solitaire Stent-retriever Thrombectomy in Acute Anterior Circulation Stroke) was a randomized controlled trial including acute ischemic stroke IVT eligible patients being directly admitted to a comprehensive stroke center, with allocation to IVT with MT versus MT alone...

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous cervical internal carotid artery dissection (cICAD) is a common cause of stroke in young adults. Endovascular therapy is an indispensable treatment for cICAD in some cases, but it faces great challenges. CASE PRESENTATION: A bilateral spontaneous cICADs with hypoperfusion-related AIS after 72 h from the onset was presented herein. The patient responded well to primary Solitaire stent detachment at the critical flow-limiting site. Tuberculosis verrucous cutis (TBVc) is a skin infection caused by M. tuberculosis, characterized by the presence of a solitaire verrucous plaque but may present as a varies of different clinical morphologies on the finger and or feet. The diagnosis is often late because of its mimicking other diseases with different etiology. Bacterial culture examination is negative because there are few pathogens in the lesion. Meanwhile, other diagnostic methods provide lower sensitivity and specificity which add further diagnostic challenges...
