Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a leading cause of maternal mortality, can occur within 24 h of delivery (primary PPH), or during the period from 24 h after delivery to Week 6 of puerperium (secondary PPH). It requires health professionals to be alert to the symptoms to ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment, especially in the case of rupture of a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm (UAP) due to its life-threatening consequence (Baba et al., 2014). Most of the published case reports or case serials describe UAP as a possible cause of delayed PPH after traumatic procedures during delivery or pregnancy termination, including cesarean section (CS), manual removal of the placenta, or dilation and curettage (D&C) (Wald, 2003)...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the utility of transvaginal ultrasound-guided thrombin injection (UGTI) to treat uterine artery pseudoaneurysms (UAP) as an alternative to emergency arterial embolization. METHODS: Two women presenting with heavy vaginal bleeding were diagnosed with UAP by pelvic CT scan. After UAP identification by transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS), 2 cc of thrombin (Tissucol(®), Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Munich, Germany) were slowly injected into the UAP using a 30 cm long 22-gauge needle through a needle-guide attached to the vaginal probe...

Uterine artery pseudoaneurysms (UAP) are rare but potentially life-threatening lesions. They may occur after traumatic deliveries, cesarean sections, and other interventions. We present a case of a 39-year-old woman with a UAP. The patient was accurately diagnosed using ultrasound imaging, with subsequent diagnostic hysteroscopy and laparoscopic excision of the UAP. In the present case, a ligation of the artery branch was performed to provide accurate hemostasis during UAP dissection. The vascular lesion was partially enucleated and removed, followed by recreation of the previous uterine shape...

We aimed to compare measurements of speed and blood flow parameters obtained manually and automatically in the uterine arteries of pregnant ewes. Eighteen Santa Inês ewes, confirmed to be pregnant, were followed every 2 weeks until parturition. The systolic peak (PS), end diastolic velocity (ED), maximum and average speed in the cardiac cycle (TAMAX and TAMEAN, respectively), pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI) and the systole/diastole (S/D) ratio and body flow volume (BFV) was measured. We began the wave evaluation automatically, then the observer manually marked the beginning and end of the wave...

AIM: We aimed to investigate correlations between uterine artery peak systolic velocity (AUtPSV), and placental vascularization in groups of normal blood pressure (NBP) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (chronic hypertension (CHT), gestational hypertension (GHT) and preeclampsia (PE)) alone or in combination with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and hypothesized that AUtPSV rises when GDM complicates pregnancy hypertension. METHODS: Placental 3-dimensional power Doppler indices, such as vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and vascularization-flow index (VFI), and uterine artery peak systolic velocity (AUtPSV) were measured in CHT (N=43), CHT+GDM (N=15), GHT (N=57), GHT+GDM (N=23) and PE (N=17) pregnancies, and compared to NBP (N=109)...

Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication after caesarean section and may be the cause of acute and potentially life-threatening secondary post-partum haemorrhage. In this case report, we present the clinical presentation and management of a case of uterine artery pseudoaneurysm manifesting as delayed post-partum bleeding after caesarean section. The case report emphasizes the importance of performing Doppler-flow when diagnosing the existence of a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm ultrasonically.

BACKGROUND: Preterm delivery (PTD) may be characterized by altered interrelationships among angiogenic factors and measures of placental function. We analyzed the longitudinal relationship between maternal serum concentrations of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt1), an important antiangiogenic factor, and uterine artery resistance in pregnancies resulting in preterm and term deliveries. METHODS: Data were collected in a longitudinal cohort study involving 278 women monitored at 6 to 10, 10 to 14, 16 to 20, 22 to 26, and 32 to 36 weeks of gestation...

Uterine arteriovenous malformation (AVM) can cause massive hemorrhage and is often treated with uterine artery embolization (UAE), which may lead to ovarian insufficiency. Thus, avoiding UAE should be considered, particularly in women undergoing fertility treatments. We present three women diagnosed with postmiscarriage AVM on color Doppler by transvaginal ultrasound imaging. They had no genital bleeding and a small mass, measuring 16-22 mm. If estradiol was >300 pg/mL when AVM was diagnosed, then a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist was administered...
