The objective of this study was to evaluate the changes in uterine blood flow (UBF) based on the resistance index (RI) and the pulsatility index (PI) by Doppler ultrasonography throughout the estrous cycle in lactating Sahiwal cows (n=9). Cows were randomly selected during their spontaneous estrus. UBF was examined on alternate days in all cows during the estrous cycle. The results revealed that the mean RI values were higher (P<0.05) on day -1 (estrus) than on day 0 (ovulation). The mean RI values followed a consistent pattern on days 2, 4, 6, and 8 (metestrus to early diestrus) and were lower (P<0...

BACKGROUND: Trophoblastic invasion of the uterine spiral arteries substantially increases compliance to accommodate increased blood flow to the placenta. Failure of this process impedes uterine artery blood flow, and this may be detected by uterine artery Doppler flow studies. However, the clinical utility of uterine artery Doppler flow studies in the prediction of adverse pregnancy outcomes in a general population remains largely unknown. OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine the utility of early second-trimester uterine artery Doppler studies as a predictor of small-for-gestational-age neonates...

Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication that can occur after various uterine manipulations. A 34-year-old nulliparous patient with a previous history of four consecutive miscarriages with unknown etiologies underwent transmyometrial oocyte retrieval as a result of malpositioning of the right ovary. Six days later, she experienced massive vaginal bleeding after a day of intermittent bleeding and was transferred to our hospital. At triage, continuous bleeding from the cervical canal was observed...

Placental hypoxia is associated with maternal hypertension, placental insufficiency and fetal growth restriction. In the pregnant guinea pig, prenatal hypoxia during early gestation inhibits cytotrophoblast invasion of spiral arteries, increases maternal blood pressure and induces fetal growth restriction. This study evaluated the impact of chronic maternal hypoxia on fetal heart structure with 4D echocardiography with spatio-temporal image correlation and tomographic ultrasound (STIC-TUI) and uterine and umbilical artery resistance/pulsatility indices and fetal heart function using pulsed wave Doppler ultrasound...

OBJECTIVE: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are associated with impaired placentation, as evidenced by abnormal uterine artery (UtA) Doppler. UtA mean pulsatility index (PI) shows a progressive decline with gestational age (GA). However, previous studies have reported that a proportion of pregnancies demonstrate worsening of the UtA Doppler. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of HDP according to the change in the UtA mean PI between the second and third trimester...

INTRODUCTION: Dark chocolate has shown beneficial effects on cardiovascular health and might also modulate hypertensive complications in pregnancy and uteroplacental blood flow. Increased uteroplacental resistance is associated with systemic arterial stiffness. We aimed to investigate the short-term effect of flavonoid-rich chocolate on arterial stiffness and Doppler blood flow velocimetry indexes in pregnant women with compromised uteroplacental blood flow. METHODS: Doppler blood flow velocimetry and digital pulse wave analysis (DPA) were performed in 25 women pregnant in the second and third trimesters with uterine artery (UtA) score (UAS) 3-4, before and after 3 days of ingestion of chocolate with high flavonoid and antioxidant contents...
