OBJECTIVE: According to the international guidelines, fresh frozen plasma (FFP) is unanimously used to treat coagulation disorders. The quality of FFP is critical for the clinical transfusion. Till now, few studies have integratedly evaluated the differences of FFP from blood donors at between high altitude (HA) and low altitude (LA). Besides, there were no special quality standards for HA FFP in China. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Up to 41 HA (Lhasa, 3700 m) and 46 LA (Chengdu, 500 m) blood donors were included in our study to estimate the differences of FFP from HA and LA blood donors...

In an experiment with 7-d dry immersion for testing the mechanic foot and electrical muscle stimulation procedures of compensating the support load deficiency the following biochemical parameters were studied: activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time, prothrombin index, international normalized ratio, thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen, soluble fibrin-monomer complexes, D-dimer (DD), plasminogen (PG); antithrombin III activity (ATIII), protein C (PC) and alpha2-antiplasmin (AP). Control subjects (immersed w/o stimulation) did not exhibit significant shifts in the hemostasis system: however, they decreased ATIII, PC and PG in the post-experimental period...

Cytokines trigger coagulant and fibrinolytic systems in sepsis to result in Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) that is an important complication and leads to disseminated hemorrhages and multi-organ failure. High Mobility Group B1 DNA Binding (HMGB1) protein is a cytokine taking part in systemic inflammatory response. The objective of this study was to investigate HMGB1 levels in groups of septic patients with and without DIC.Twenty-one septic patients without DIC and 12 septic patients with DIC from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) were included in the study...

Primary haemostasis (bleeding and blood clotting time), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), antithrombin III (ATIII), protein C, protein S, fibrinogen and D-dimer were determined in 13 cattle affected by chronic enzootic haematuria (CEH) and bladder neoplasms and 10 healthy cattle (control group). Increases in antithrombin III and protein S activities (P<0.01) and protein C and fibrinogen plasma levels (P<0.05) were observed in sick animals, while activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time, and D-dimer did not show significant differences when compared to healthy animals...

The present paper deals with studying ofhemostasis system indices after short-term (10-11 days) space flights as well as in the course of the experiment with a 7-day "dry" immersion. The following values were determined: activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time, prothrombin index, international normalized ratio (INR), thrombin time (TT); fibrinogen, soluble fibrin-monomer complexes, D-dimer, plasminogen (PG) concentration; activity of antithrombin III (ATIII), protein C (PC), alpha2-antiplasmin (AP)...

Eight volunteered male test-subjects (20-40 y.o.) took part in an experiment with 21-hr bed rest aimed to investigate trends in the hemostasis parameters (activated partial thromboplastin time, prothrombin time, thrombin time, fibrinogen, plasminogen, D-dimers, soluble fibrin-monomer complexes (SFMC), as well as antithrombin III (ATIII) and protein C (antiplasmin) activities) after diuretics-induced dehydration followed by intravenous infusion of colloid and crystalloid solutions. It was shown that noncompensible dehydration during bed rest does not lead to noteworthy alterations in the procoagulating component of hemostasis...

BACKGROUND: Severe sepsis, defined as a systemic inflammatory response to infection associated with acute organ dysfunction, is common among surgical patients and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Severe sepsis has been associated with changes in inflammatory and hemostatic biomarkers. In patients undergoing surgical procedures there may be additional stimulation of cytokine release and activation of the coagulation system. The purpose of this study was to characterize the baseline differences in biomarkers between surgical and non-surgical patients...

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of coagulation dysfunctions on patients with the development of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). METHODS: All the patients studied were divided into 2 groups: SIRS and non-SIRS according to the criteria for selection of SIRS. The SIRS group included 100 patients and the non-SIRS group 50 patients. A control group included 50 healthy adults. SIRS group was further divided into two subgroups: survivor and non-survivor...

We studied 67 healthy women who were randomly allocated to receive third generation gestodene (Gynera) or second generation levonorgestrel (Microgynon 30) combination of low-dose estrogen oral contraceptives (OCs) for their hemostatic effects over 2 years. Hemostatic changes were apparent within 3 months of OC use. Hematocrit (Hct) was not affected, but hemoglobin (Hb) concentration decreased by 18 months. Shortened prothrombin time (PT) and activated plasma thromboplastin time (APTT) were associated with elevated fibrinogen within the 12-month use of both OCs...
