In this study, PbS/Er co-doped fibers (PEDFs) were fabricated by atomic layer deposition (ALD) combined with modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD). A pumping scheme based on two-photon absorption at 1310 nm of PEDF is proposed for L + band amplification. Through the theoretical analysis, the local environment of Er3+ is changed due to the co-doping of PbS, which improves the two-photon absorption efficiency near 1300 nm. Compared with the 980 nm pump, the PEDFs excited by the 1310 nm pump show better amplification performance in the L + band...

Stable Q-switched and femtosecond mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) have been achieved using CuSe nanosheets as novel saturable absorber (SA), where the CuSe nanosheets were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The nonlinear optical properties of CuSe nanosheets were measured using an Z-scan setup, revealing nonlinear absorption coefficients of -3.67 ± 0.22 cm GW-1 at 1560 nm. The prepared CuSe nanosheets were mixed with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to obtain a CuSe-PVA SA with a modulation depth of 3...

We introduce a dual-comb spectrometer based on erbium fiber oscillators at 250 MHz that operates in the 7.5-11.5 µm spectral range over optical bandwidths up to 9 THz with a multi-kHz acquisition rate. Over an observation bandwidth of 0.8 THz, the signal-to-noise ratio per spectral point reaches 168 Hz0.5 at an acquisition rate of 26 kHz, which allows the investigation of transient processes in the gas phase at high temporal resolution. The system also represents an attractive solution for multi-species atmospheric gas detection in open paths due to the water transparency of the spectral window, the use of thermo-electrically cooled detectors, and the out-of-loop phase correction of the interferograms...

The limited solubility of natural cellulose in water and common organic solvents hinders its diverse applications, despite being one of the most abundant and easily accessible biopolymers on Earth. Chemical derivatization, such as cellulose carbamate (CC), offers a pathway to enhance both solubility and industrial processability. In this study, CC was synthesized by exploiting a novel type IV deep eutectic solvent (DES) composed of erbium trichloride and urea. This DES was shown to be not only an environmentally friendly reaction medium/catalyst but also actively participated in the synthetic process as a reagent...

Background and Objectives: This paper aims to assess the role of laser therapy in periodontitis through an innovative approach involving computational prediction and advanced modeling performed through network analysis (Gaussian graphical models-GGMs) and structural equations (SEM). Materials and Methods: Forty patients, exhibiting periodontal pockets with a minimum depth of 5 mm, were randomly divided into two groups: a control group and a laser group. Four specific indicators were measured for each tooth, namely periodontal pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), bleeding on probing (BOP), and plaque index (PI), and the mean of six measured values was recorded at five time markers (baseline, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 4 years)...

The use of trivalent erbium (Er3+ ), typically embedded as an atomic defect in the solid-state, has widespread adoption as a dopant in telecommunication devices and shows promise as a spin-based quantum memory for quantum communication. In particular, its natural telecom C-band optical transition and spin-photon interface make it an ideal candidate for integration into existing optical fiber networks without the need for quantum frequency conversion. However, successful scaling requires a host material with few intrinsic nuclear spins, compatibility with semiconductor foundry processes, and straightforward integration with silicon photonics...

The sensor has excellent characteristics of high sensitivity, antielectromagnetic interference, fast response, and long-distance detection. A polarization-wavelength-related filter is designed to assign a distinct polarization state to each laser wavelength.
