AIM: A simple, accurate, precise, and reproducible reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method was developed and validated for the determination of rizatriptan benzoate in oral strip formulations. METHODOLOGY: Separation was achieved under optimized chromatographic condition on a Hiper C18 column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 m) using Shimadzu HPLC. The mobile phase consisted of phosphate buffer (20 mM pH adjusted to 3.2 ± 0.005 with ortho phosphoric acid): Methanol in the ratio of 70:30 v/v with isocratic elution at a flow rate of 1 ml/min at ambient temperature was performed...

BACKGROUND: There are several methods commonly practicing for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) purification from agarose gel. In most laboratories, especially in developing countries, present methods for recovering of DNA fragments from the gel are mostly involved organic solvents. However, manual purification using organic solvents are toxic, labor intensive, time consuming and prone to contamination owing to several handling steps. The above mentioned burdens as well as cost and long time to import them, especially in developing countries, prompted us to design and develop a chamber system for rapid, non-toxic, cost-effective and user friendly device for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products purification from agarose gel...

Shock ignition concept is a promising approach to inertial confinement fusion that may allow obtaining high fusion energy gains with the existing laser technology. However, the spike driving laser intensities in the range of 1-10 PW/cm2 produces the energetic electrons that may have a significant effect on the target performance. The hybrid numerical simulations including a radiation hydrodynamic code coupled to a rapid Fokker-Planck module are used to asses the role of hot electrons in the shock generation and the target preheat in the time scale of 100 ps and spatial scale of 100 μm...

A technique that is increasingly being used to determine the structure and conformational flexibility of biomacromolecules is Pulsed Electron-Electron Double Resonance (PELDOR or DEER), an Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) based technique. At X-band frequencies (9.5 GHz), PELDOR is capable of precisely measuring distances in the range of 1.5-8 nm between paramagnetic centres but the orientation selectivity is weak. In contrast, working at higher frequencies increases the orientation selection but usually at the expense of decreased microwave power and PELDOR modulation depth...

The purpose of this work was to identify those nonclassic cytological signs that would allow the prediction of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Cytology samples taken from outpatients that attended public and private gynecological practices, between January of 2006 and December of 2008, were studied. The cytological samples were informed following the criteria of the Bethesda system 2001. Those reports with a cytological interpretation of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion/HPV (LSIL/HPV) were selected...

The scheme of a simultaneous multiple pulse focusing on one spot naturally arises from the structural features of projected new laser systems, such as the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) and High Power laser Energy Research (HiPER). It is shown that the multiple pulse configuration is beneficial for observing e+ e- pair production from a vacuum under the action of sufficiently strong electromagnetic fields. The field of focused pulses is described using a realistic three-dimensional model based on an exact solution of the Maxwell equations...

PURPOSE: To report the findings of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in three cases of diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis (DUSN). METHODS: Three young patients with confirmed diagnosis of diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis were followed-up using Stratus OCT. RESULTS: Optical coherence tomography findings included retinal nerve fiber layer atrophy and focal edema where the worm was initially lodged. In two patients we could identify the worm by optical coherence tomography as an area of hiper-reflectivity...

This research was stated on the group of infertile patient taking part in in vitro fertilization. The whole group of 60 random patients was divided into two subgroups: 10 persons smoking cigarettes and 50 nonsmokers. The number of follicles obtained after controlled ovarian hiperstimulation, the number of mature and immature oocytes and concentration of 17beta-estradiol in serum at the hCG day were measured for all women. There was also calculated the number of granulosa cells and the relative expression of the gene encoding FSHR...

New chlorpromazine selective electrodes with a tubular arrangement and no internal reference solution are proposed. Selective membranes are of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with the tetraphenylborate.chlorpromazine (TPB.CPZ) ion-exchanger dissolved in o-nitrophenyl octyl ether (oNPOE). Analytical features of the electrodes were evaluated on a single-channel flow assembly having 500 microl injection volumes and flow-rates of 4.5 ml min(-1). For a carrier solution of 3.3 x 10(-3)M in sodium sulphate, Nernstian response was observed over the concentration range 1...

A meta-analysis of experimentally induced changes in blood flow ("activations") in positron emission tomography (PET) studies of memory has revealed an orderly functional anatomic pattern: Activations in the hippocampal region associated with episodic memory encoding are located primarily in the rostral portions of the region, whereas activations associated with episodic memory retrieval are located primarily in the caudal portions. These findings are based on an analysis of a sample of 54 "hippocampal encoding and retrieval" activations that were culled from an overall database consisting of 52 published PET studies of memory...

During the last seven years 118 patients with histologic diagnosis of malign tumor in the liver were examinated by selective angiography, amongst other diagnostic recourses: 14 patients had primitive tumors: 12 hepatoma, 1 cholangiocarcinoma and 1 hepatocholangiocarcinoma. In 12 patients resection was contraindicated preoperative by the angiographic demonstration of the extension of the tumor to both lobes. In 1 patient with cholangiocarcinoma, the tumor was resected with an outlive of 4 years. In 1 patient with hepatoma very vascular a hard league of the right hepatic artery was done...
