BACKGROUND: Regular physical activity and limited sedentary time are recommended for adult childhood cancer survivors. The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare designed a questionnaire to assess levels of physical activity (BHW-Q), including two questions: one on vigorous physical activity (BHW-Q VPA) and one on moderate physical activity (BHW-Q MPA). Furthermore, a single-item question was developed to measure sedentary time (SED-GIH-Q). These questions are recommended for clinical practice and have been found valid for the general population but have so far not been tested in adult childhood cancer survivors...

UNLABELLED: Studies investigating the immunogenicity of additional COVID-19 vaccine doses in immunosuppressed patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRD) are still limited. The objective was to explore the antibody response including response to omicron virus subvariants (sBA.1 and sBS.2) after third and fourth COVID-19 vaccine doses in Swedish IRD patients treated with immunomodulating drugs compared to controls. Antibody levels to spike wild-type antigens (full-length protein and S1) and the omicron variants sBA...

Quasi-market reforms have been increasingly implemented in tax-funded health care, but their effects in terms of equity, quality and socioeconomic differentials in quality remain sparsely studied. We create a natural experiment setup exploiting the differential timing of a set of quasi-market reforms - including patient choice, free establishment of providers and changes in provider remuneration -, implemented in primary care in the two largest Swedish regions (Stockholm and Västra Götaland) in 2008-2009...

National arthroplasty registries date back to 1975, when the Swedish Knee Arthroplasty Register was founded. This method of database collecting has since been employed for both patient follow-up and the creation of annual statistical reports. In Bulgaria, there is currently no state-approved software that offers these features.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-based healthcare (EBHC) enables consistent and effective healthcare that prioritises patient safety. The competencies of advanced practice nurses (APNs) are essential for implementing EBHC because their professional duties include promoting EBHC. AIM: To identify, critically appraise, and synthesise the best available evidence concerning the EBHC competence of APNs and associated factors. DESIGN: A systematic review. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the cumulative incidence proportion of disseminated or local Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) infections after adjuvant BCG instillations in patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We analysed the timing and occurrence of BCG infections and absolute and relative risk in relation to patient characteristics available in the Swedish nationwide database 'BladderBaSe 2.0'. The cumulative incidence proportion of a BCG infection was indicated by a reported diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) in the patient registry or filing a prescription for tuberculostatic drugs...

BACKGROUND: Sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (sALS) is a severe neurodegenerative disease characterized by continuous diminution of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Earlier studies indicated that the DPP6 gene variant has a role in the development of sALS. This meta-analysis was designed to uncover the role of rs10260404 polymorphism of the DPP6 gene and its association with sALS. METHODS: All case-control articles published prior to October 2022 on the association between DPP6 (rs10260404) polymorphism and sALS risk were systematically extracted from different databases which include PubMed, PubMed Central, and Google Scholar...

STUDY QUESTION: Which clinical and embryological factors should be considered to apply double embryo transfer (DET) instead of elective single embryo transfer (eSET)? SUMMARY ANSWER: No clinical or embryological factor per se justifies a recommendation of DET instead of eSET in IVF/ICSI. CONTEXT: Clinically assisted hydration during end-of-life care among patients with cancer is controversial; practice varies between clinical settings and countries, and there is a lack of evidence. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether breathlessness, respiratory secretion, or confusion correlates with receiving parenteral hydration during end of life, adjusted for sex, age, and place of death. METHODS: The Swedish Register of Palliative Care database was used to collect data about the usage of parenteral hydration during the last day of life, and the occurrence of three symptoms during the last week...

INTRODUCTION: Diagnosing invasive cutaneous melanoma (CM) can be challenging due to subjectivity in distinguishing equivocal nevi, melanoma in situ and thin CMs. The underlying molecular mechanisms of progression from nevus to melanoma must be better understood. AIMS: Our primary aim was to assess reoperation-free survival at one year after the index injury in patients aged ≥ 75 years treated with internal fixation (IF) or arthroplasty for undisplaced femoral neck fractures (uFNFs). Secondary outcomes were reoperations and mortality analyzed separately. METHODS: We retrieved data on all patients aged ≥ 75 years with an uFNF registered in the Swedish Fracture Register from 2011 to 2018. BACKGROUND: Identification and prevention of transfusion-transmitted disease is essential for blood transfusion safety. However, current surveillance systems are largely driven by reports of sentinel events, which is an approach that might be inadequate for identifying transmission of pathogens not known to be transmissible or pathogens with long incubation periods. Using a combination of health-data registers and blood-bank databases, we aimed to perform an agnostic search for potential transfusion-transmitted diseases and to identify unknown threats to the blood supply...

In Sweden, allergy immunotherapy (AIT) is available as either subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) injections or sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) tablets and is used to treat moderate-severe allergic rhinitis (AR). This study sought to determine treatment-related CO2 emissions and travel times in Swedish patients receiving either SCIT or SLIT-tablets. A list of specialized Swedish AR clinics that administer AIT was determined, and respective co-ordinates retrieved. Swedish municipality population data were obtained from a national database...
