Natural ventilation in low-budget elementary schools is the main focus to ensure the health and comfort of its occupants, specifically when looking at the global pandemic related to SARS-COV-2. This paper presents an experimental and novel study of natural ventilation in a public elementary school (Los Zumacales), with a particularly low economic budget. The study was carried out during the winter months of the Covid 19 pandemic. The school is located in the rural area of Castilla y León (North-Western Spain) far from high traffic roads...

A new Cu(II) paddle-wheel-like complex with 4-vinylbenzoate was synthesized using acetonitrile as the solvent. The complex was characterized by X-ray crystal diffraction, FT-IR, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, thermogravimetric, differential scanning calorimetric, magnetic susceptibility, and electronic paramagnetic resonance analyses. The X-ray crystal diffraction analysis indicated that each copper ion was bound at an equatorial position to four oxygen atoms from the carboxylate groups of the 4-vinylbenzoate ligand in a square-based pyramidal geometry...

INTRODUCTION: Clinoidal meningiomas are currently among the intracranial meningiomas with the greatest neurosurgical complexity, morbidity, and mortality associated with their resection. The worldwide literature has described tumor size (>4 cm3 ), patient age (>60 years), and invasion of the cavernous sinus as factors associated with a worse clinical outcome following surgery. METHODS: We describe the series of cases of patients with clinoidal meningiomas who underwent microsurgical resection at our institution between January 2014 and March 2019...

Cell proteostasis includes gene transcription, protein translation, folding of de novo proteins, post-translational modifications, secretion, degradation and recycling. By profiling the proteome of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from T cells, we have found the chaperonin complex CCT, involved in the correct folding of particular proteins. By limiting CCT cell-content by siRNA, cells undergo altered lipid composition and metabolic rewiring towards a lipid-dependent metabolism, with increased activity of peroxisomes and mitochondria...

The reasons behind the onset and continuation of chronic inflammation in individuals with severe allergies are still not understood. Earlier findings indicated that there is a connection between severe allergic inflammation, systemic metabolic alterations and impairment of regulatory functions. Here, we aimed to identify transcriptomic alterations in T cells associated with the degree of severity in allergic asthmatic patients. T cells were isolated from severe ( n  = 7) and mild ( n  = 9) allergic asthmatic patients, and control (non-allergic, non-asthmatic healthy) subjects ( n  = 8) to perform RNA analysis by Affymetrix gene expression...

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most frequent histological subtype of NHL and the paradigm for the management of aggressive lymphoma. An excisional or incisional lymph node biopsy evaluated by an experienced hemopathologist is recommended to establish the diagnosis. Twenty years following its introduction, R-CHOP remains the standard first-line treatment. No modification of this scheme (increased chemotherapy dose intensity, new monoclonal antibodies, or the addition of immunomodulators or anti-target agents) has significatively improved the clinical outcomes, whereas therapy for recurrence or progression is evolving rapidly...

Leiomyomas are benign mesenchymal tumors which originate from smooth muscle cells. Extrauterine leiomyomas are rare and they may arise where smooth muscle cells are found. Their diagnosis is challenging due to their heterogeneous ways of presentation. Histological analysis may reveal areas of sarcomatous differentiation; therefore, complete resection of the entire tumor is the only curative treatment. There is no adjuvant therapy proved to increase overall survival. It is essential to develop a standardized protocol, detailing how to follow up these patients since it is not reported in the literature to date; however, it is advisable to follow them because the local recurrence rate is high if small implants remain...

INTRODUCTION: Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia with Misaligned Pulmonary Veins (ACDMPV) is a fatal congenital disease resulting from a pulmonary vascular endothelial deficiency of FOXF1, producing abnormal morphogenesis of alveolar capillaries, malpositioned pulmonary veins and disordered development of lung lobes. Affected neonates suffer from cyanosis, severe breathing insufficiency, pulmonary hypertension, and death typically within days to weeks after birth. Currently, no treatment exists for ACDMPV, although recent murine research in the Kalinichenko lab demonstrates nanoparticle delivery improves survival and reconstitutes normal alveolar-capillary architecture...

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a highly metastatic soft-tissue sarcoma that often develops resistance to current therapies, including vincristine. Since the existing treatments have not significantly improved survival, there is a critical need for new therapeutic approaches for RMS patients. FOXM1, a known oncogene, is highly expressed in RMS, and is associated with the worst prognosis in RMS patients. In the present study, we found that the combination treatment with specific FOXM1 inhibitor RCM1 and low doses of vincristine is more effective in increasing apoptosis and decreasing RMS cell proliferation in vitro compared to single drugs alone...

In a time of rapid global change, the question of what determines patterns in species abundance distribution remains a priority for understanding the complex dynamics of ecosystems. The constrained maximization of information entropy provides a framework for the understanding of such complex systems dynamics by a quantitative analysis of important constraints via predictions using least biased probability distributions. We apply it to over two thousand hectares of Amazonian tree inventories across seven forest types and thirteen functional traits, representing major global axes of plant strategies...

Temporomandibular disorders comprise a set of conditions that include alterations of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles. Although different modalities of electric currents are widely used for treating temporomandibular disorders, previous reviews have suggested these are ineffective. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the effectiveness of different electrical stimulation modalities in patients with temporomandibular disorders for reducing musculoskeletal pain, increasing the range of movement, and improving muscle activity...

In this work, the influence of degassing temperature and urea functionalization were investigated as ways to improve the CO2 adsorption performance of CPO-27-Mg. Through post-synthesis modification treatments, four samples with different degrees of urea functionalization were obtained, incorporating 10, 25, 50, and 100% of urea concerning the metal sites of the MOF. Alternatively, the influence of the degassing temperature of the non-functionalized MOF between 70 and 340 °C was also evaluated. The resulting compounds were characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms at -196 °C using TGA-MS, FTIR, and PXRD...
