Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) have a significant impact on the environment and human health, due to their sometimes toxic and carcinogenic characteristics. Therefore, an innovative chemosensor was constructed for ultrasensitive determination of two typical PCCPs (hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC)) in several minutes. The homemade chemosensor (UiO-67@GO/MWCNTs) consisted of MOF(UiO-67), graphene oxide (GO), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composites; it was a networked, structurally sparse, porosity-rich, homogeneous octahedral composite, and had ultra-high electrical conductivity, which provided lots of active adsorption sites, promote charge transfer, and enrich lots of molecules to be measured in a few minutes...

A tissue sample is a valuable resource for understanding a patient's symptoms and health status in relation to tumor growth. Recent research seeks to establish a connection between tissue-specific tumor samples and genetic markers (genes). This breakthrough has paved the way for personalized cancer therapies. With this motivation, the proposed model constructs a heterogeneous network based on tumor sample-gene relation data and gene-gene interaction data. This network also incorporates tissue-specific gene expression and primary site-based gene counts as features, enabling tissue-specific predictions...

Peracetic acid (PAA) oxidation catalyzed by metal-free carbons is promising for advanced water decontamination. Nevertheless, developing reaction-oriented and high-performance carbocatalysts has been limited by the ambiguous understanding of the intrinsic relationship between carbon chemical/molecular structure and PAA transformation behavior. Herein, we comprehensively investigated the PAA activation using a family of well-defined sp2 /sp3 carbon hybrids from annealed nanodiamonds (ANDs). The activity of ANDs displays a volcano-type trend, with respect to the sp2 /sp3 ratio...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Visceral obesity is a risk factor for reflux esophagitis (RE). We investigated the risk of RE according to visceral adipose tissue (VAT) measured by deep neural network architecture using computed tomography and evaluated the longitudinal association between abdominal adipose tissue changes and the disease course of RE. METHODS: Individuals receiving health checkups who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and abdominal computed tomography (CT) at Seoul National University Healthcare System Gangnam Center between 2015 and 2016 were included...

BACKGROUND: Quality of life and care varies between and within the care homes in which almost half a million older people live and over half a million direct care staff (registered nurses and care assistants) work. The reasons are complex, understudied and sometimes oversimplified, but staff and their work are a significant influence. OBJECTIVE(S): To explore variations in the care home nursing and support workforce; how resident and relatives' needs in care homes are linked to care home staffing; how different staffing models impact on care quality, outcomes and costs; how workforce numbers, skill mix and stability meet residents' needs; the contributions of the care home workforce to enhancing quality of care; staff relationships as a platform for implementation by providers...

Nearly 31% of the Ghanaian population are adolescents, and these populations persistently face high rates of teenage pregnancies and unsafe abortions. This is despite sexual and reproductive health (SRH) being taught in the school curriculum. In this qualitative study, we explore the factors affecting adolescents' access to, and experiences of, SRH services in Accra, Ghana. We conducted 12 focus group discussions (FGDs) with adolescents and 13 key informant interviews (KIs) in Ghana. The FGDs were conducted with school-going and out-of-school adolescents...

The noncanonical NFκB signaling pathway mediates the biological functions of diverse cell survival, growth, maturation, and differentiation factors that are important for the development and maintenance of hematopoietic cells and immune organs. Its dysregulation is associated with a number of immune pathologies and malignancies. Originally described as the signaling pathway that controls the NFκB family member RelB, we now know that noncanonical signaling also controls NFκB RelA and cRel. Here, we aim to clarify our understanding of the molecular network that mediates noncanonical NFκB signaling and review the human diseases that result from a deficient or hyper-active noncanonical NFκB pathway...

According to experts in neurology, brain tumours pose a serious risk to human health. The clinical identification and treatment of brain tumours rely heavily on accurate segmentation. The varied sizes, forms, and locations of brain tumours make accurate automated segmentation a formidable obstacle in the field of neuroscience. U-Net, with its computational intelligence and concise design, has lately been the go-to model for fixing medical picture segmentation issues. Problems with restricted local receptive fields, lost spatial information, and inadequate contextual information are still plaguing artificial intelligence...

Brain state classification by applying deep learning techniques on neuroimaging data has become a recent topic of research. However, unlike domains where the data is low dimensional or there are large number of available training samples, neuroimaging data is high dimensional and has few training samples. To tackle these issues, we present a sparse feedforward deep neural architecture for encoding and decoding the structural connectome of the human brain. We use a sparsely connected element-wise multiplication as the first hidden layer and a fixed transform layer as the output layer...

Adolescent mental health is difficult to capture in categories such as depression or specific anxiety disorders. An alternative is to approach psychiatric symptoms as causal networks, potentially revealing feedback loops that maintain a pathological state. One approach to creating such networks, implemented in the PECAN methodology, is to ask adolescents about their perceptions of the causes to their symptoms. For this purpose, a transdiagnostic item list was created, and adolescents who screened positive for depression ( N = 55) completed twice in two weeks a survey quantifying perceptions of causality between their mental health problems...
