BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Due to its pharmacological characteristics, sevoflurane is the ideal anesthetic for short-duration procedures. There are two brands of sevoflurane in the Brazilian market, Sevocris® and Sevorane®, with different formulations and packaging. The objective of this study was to assess whether there are differences between the two anesthetics regarding induction, maintenance, recovery, and consumption. METHODS: One hundred and thirty children were included, divided into two groups according to the brand used: Group 1 was assigned to sevoflurane Cristália® and Group 2 to sevoflurane Abbott®...

UNLABELLED: The purpose of the study was to compare the effectiveness of sevoflurane and propofol during combined anesthesia with epidural component during aortocoronary bypass surgery without artificial circulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 24 patients with ischemic heart disease. All patients underwent aortocoronary bypass surgery on the working heart (from 1 to 5 bypasses) under combined anesthesia (propofol or sevoflurane with epidural anesthesia with the use of ropicavaine and fentanyl)...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Sevoflurane is presented in three types of vials. The differences in physical-chemical properties of those products are due to different manufacturing processes, although they are essentially identical regarding chemical comparison tests. It has been hypothesized that the Sevoflurane molecule could present chemical instability due to the formation of Lewis acids as a consequence of the materials used in the fabrication of the vials and the water content. The objective of this study was to analyze the clinical efficacy of Sevoflurane conditioned in different vials...

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the possible advantage of administration of preemptive oral ibuprofen in children after ambulatory pediatric urologic surgery such as penile surgery (circumcision and hypospadias repair) and inguinal surgery (communicating hydrocele and orchidopexy), a study was performed on the experience of postoperative pain, nausea or vomiting, and resumption of normal activities such as normal sleep and play activity. In addition, this study has validated a method of measurement of pain and resumption of normal activities in children...

The study included 44 patients who were divided into 3 groups according to the type of anesthesia. In group 1 patients (n = 15), initial anesthesia was accomplished by inhaled sevoflurane and intravenous fentanyl (2.5-3.5 microg/kg); basal anesthesia was performed with sevoflurane. In Group 2, midazolam, 0.1-0.15 mg/kg, fentanyl, 5.2 +/- 0.01 vg/kg, and ketamine, 0.85 +/- 0.13 mg/kg were given for induction. Basic anesthesia was carried out, by administering fentanyl in a dose of 4.71 +/- 0.4 microg/kg/hour, halothane, 0...

COMPARATIVE STUDY

1969 Sevofluran was synthesized and in December 1995 licensed for clinical use in Germany. The low blood/gas partition coefficient is responsible for the fast uptake and elimination of sevoflurane. Sevoflurane does not irritate the airway. In human medicine no side effect of liver- and kidney function have been seen after sevofluran anaesthesia. There is low cardiovascular and respiratory depression caused by sevoflurane. In this study the use of sevoflurane in dogs should be tested and compared with isoflurane and halothane anaesthesia...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
R Korbel
A conventional inhalation anaesthesia using an isoflurane and sevoflurane-oxygen-nitrous oxide-mixture was performed in each six domestic pigeons (Columbia livia Gmel., 1789, var. domestica). Over a period of 60 minutes routine anaesthetic monitoring including reflex score (12 reflexes, cloacal body temperature and pulse oximetry) was performed. For anaesthesia maintainance 4.0 +/- 0.3 Vol. % sevoflurane compared to 2.0 +/- 0.2 Vol. % isoflurane were used. The induction period using sevoflurane was shorter (95 +/- 9 sec) than by using isoflurane (154 +/- 12 sec)...
