Bone metablism of glucocorticoid-induced osteopororsis (GIO) is characterised by transient increase in bone resorption and persistent suppression of bone formation caused by glucocorticoid. Teriparatide is an ideal drug for GIO, because of antagonistic effect against that pathophysiological conditions. Based on new findings of treatment for GIO around the world, teriparatide was selected as one of alternative drugs of the first line agents for GIO in revised version of the guidelines on the management and treatment of GIO of the Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Research : 2014 update...

Osteoporosis is one of the top 10 global diseases of 21 st century. The altered bone turnover rate has been attributed to impaired activity of osteoblasts and over-activity of osteoclasts. Anti-resorptive and bone forming therapies are the two choices available for the treatment of osteoporosis. In the mini-review, we will discuss the experimental therapeutics of emerging osteoanabolic strategies.

OBJECTIVES: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis to evaluate effects on biochemical markers and urinary excretion of zinc (Zn) of calcitonin therapy. METHODS: Patients were required to have a bone mineral density (BMD) of 2.5 S.D. or more below the young adult mean either at the postero-anterior lumbar spine or at the femoral neck.
