Objective: To investigate the changes of nasal ventilation before and after septoplasty by using NOSE scoring scale and nasal function examination, and to explore the correlation between subjective nasal obstruction and nasal function examination and its clinical application value. Methods: A total of 129 cases of nasal septum deviation from December 2021 to April 2023 in our hospital were selected for study. All patients underwent septoplasty. Nasal obstruction symptom evaluation(NOSE) was performed in all patients before surgery and 3 months after surgery...

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate quality-of-life and satisfaction outcomes in patients undergoing the MES using the Portuguese version of the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE-p) and Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE), and also to evaluate the frequency of possible complications of this technique. METHODS: We conducted a single-center prospective study with patients who had the indication for MES, from May 2016 to September 2020 at the Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic of Otolaryngology Department of the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre...

In 2019 and 2023, two randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on the effectiveness of septoplasty were published (1,2). Part of the rationale for both studies was that the value of septoplasty had been questioned by policymakers, health insurance carriers and health care providers. The results of both studies showed that patients undergoing septoplasty had a better outcome than patients in the control group. Without questioning these results or the general perception in the rhinology community that septoplasty is of great value to the right patient, we still see the need for caution when interpreting the outcome of the RCTs and when rhinologists try to transfer the results to routine clinical practice...

Study Design: Technical note. Objective: The lower nasal architecture is dependent on caudal septal integrity. Deviations of the caudal septum can compromise nasal airflow. The presence of anterior nasal spine deviations contributes to septal and medial crural shifting with ipsilateral encroachment. It is essential to identify nasal spine deviation during surgery in order to reconstruct the septum in a midline position at its base. This allows an appropriate management plan that creates a better functional and aesthetically pleasing outcome...

Mucormycosis is a progressive and life-threatening disease that has been increasingly reported in patients infected by coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19). We describe a case of rhino-orbital mucormycosis with central nervous system involvement resulting in bilateral blindness and intracranial extension in a patient with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (DM) and mild COVID-19 infection. A 35-year-old obese male, recently diagnosed with DM, presented to the emergency department suffering from dizziness, headache, speech difficulty, and facial weakness...

A girl in early adolescence with autism presented with 3 months of abdominal pain and 36 hours of anuria. She had recently received treatment for urinary tract infections, anxiety and menorrhagia (she had undergone menarche a few months earlier). Due to the pain, she had pulled out an incisor. Bladder scan showed 923 mL, creatinine was 829 mmol/L but urethral catheter insertion did not drain urine. An unenhanced CT scan revealed an absent left kidney, didelphys uterus and right-sided hydroureteronephrosis caused by haematocolpos in keeping with a diagnosis of OHVIRA syndrome and ureteric obstruction of a single kidney causing acute renal failure...

Background  Rhinoplasty, a common cosmetic surgery, improves aesthetic appearance and nasal function. Outcomes are typically measured by patient satisfaction and quality of life impact. However, a gap exists in validated non-English assessment tools, especially in Arabic, which hinders accurately capturing patient experiences in Arabic-speaking populations. To fill this gap, this study aims to translate and validate the "Rhinoplasty" module of the Facial Assessment and Cosmetic Enhancement Quality of Life Questionnaire (FACE-Q) self-questionnaire into Arabic...

INTRODUCTION: Rhinoplasty was one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries in the USA in 2022. Traditionally, the open approach has been preferred by the majority of surgeons often due to familiarity and ease of visualization. However, patient interest in closed and preservation rhinoplasty is driving a resurgence in the popularity of endonasal techniques. We present a series of 100 consecutive endonasal primary and revision rhinoplasty cases using bilateral isolated modified rim incisions...

Multiple anatomical variations in the nasal cavity are well-described in the literature. We describe a rare case of pneumatization of the frontal sinus in the nasal septum that we term "Septo-Frontal Cell". To the best of our knowledge, this pattern of nasal septum pneumatization has not been described in the literature before. We have discussed the clinical and radiological findings and management of this patient.
