Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a solvent that is routinely used as a cryopreservative in allogous bone marrow and organ transplantation. We exposed C57Bl/6 mice of varying postnatal ages (P0-P30) to DMSO in order to study whether DMSO could produce apoptotic degeneration in the developing CNS. DMSO produced widespread apoptosis in the developing mouse brain at all ages tested. Damage was greatest at P7. UNLABELLED: Between 1991 and 2002, we performed 156 primary total hip replacements in rheumatoid arthritis patients with protrusion acetabulum. The deficient acetabulum was reconstructed with autologous and allogous morsellized bone grafts from the femoral head. We studied the influence of HLA class I and class II antigens on the suppression of the MLR induced by primed lymphocytes (PLs) alloactivated in vitro. The suppression of 14 different PLs of 83 MLRs was analyzed. The PLs were primed against (i) HLA-DP (SB) (ii) HLA-DR/DQ or (iii) both HLA-DP and DR/DQ. The suppression was analyzed with special reference to the sharing of HLA-antigens between (i) the stimulator in the MLR and (ii) the stimulator generating the PL. HLA-DP and HLA-DR/DQ antigens were equally capable of generating suppressor cells...

The presence of cell-free Ehrlich ascites tumor fluid in an appropriate concentration was shown to permit a proliferative response, strictly dependent on the presence of Thy-1-positive lymphocytes, to proceed when introduced on the initiation of mixed lymphocyte-tumor reaction of C57BL/6 lymphocytes and Mitomycin-C-treated C3H/He myeloma cells, while it clearly inhibited the development of cytotoxic killer T lymphocytes toward the priming allogeic tumor cells. The fluid had no effect, however, when added to normally primed spleen cells at the onset of cytotoxicity test...
