BACKGROUND: Deoxyribonuclease 1 (DNASE1) is an important gene associated with several cancers, including liver, bladder, and gastric cancer. It has been linked to autoimmune illnesses, including systemic lupus erythematosus, which may lead to cancer formation. However, the role of DNASE1 in cancer has not been studied. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a pan-cancer analysis using bioinformatics tools, including Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA), and University of Alabama at Birmingham Cancer Data Analysis Portal (UALCAN) databases, Kaplan-Meier plotter, and cBioPortal, to investigate the expression of DNASE1 across various cancers as well as its association with immune infiltration and genetic alterations...

Sinonasal (SN) malignancies are rare. Within SN adenocarcinomas, the most frequent are intestinal-type adenocarcinomas (ITACs). ITAC has been associated with wood and leather dust occupational exposure and TP53 mutations. Not much information is available regarding its characterization and treatment. The aim of this study is to characterize the clinicopathologic and prognostic factors of patients with sinonasal adenocarcinomas (SNACs) treated in our tertiary-level hospital. A retrospective, consecutive study including SNAC patients diagnosed between 2004-2023 was conducted...

Concomitant renal cell carcinomas (RCC) of both native and allograft kidneys are extremely rare, and only a few cases have been reported in the available English literature. A particularly rare variant within the adult population is the Xp11.2 translocation/transcription factor E3 (TFE3)-rearranged RCC. Although few case reports of TFE3-rearranged RCC have been reported in children who underwent kidney transplantation (KT), no case of adults with TFE3-rearranged RCC following KT has been reported. Herein, we presented the radiological and pathological findings of a rare metachronous papillary RCC in the allograft kidney and TFE3-rearranged RCC in the native kidney...

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Struma ovarii (SO), is a rare and specialized ovarian teratoma. The treatment is controversial depending on the risk of recurrence and metastasis. Here a SO with papillary thyroid carcinoma is reported and the approach is thoroughly discussed. ABSTRACT: Struma ovarii (SO) is a highly specialized ovarian teratoma primarily composed of thyroid tissue. Clinical features associated with SO include lower abdominal discomfort, unusual vaginal bleeding, ascites, and hyperthyroidism...

We report the first case of pancreatic stent (PS) migration placed early into the main pancreatic duct (MPD) during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) due to subsequent endoscopic papillary balloon dilation. A 74-year-old woman who complained of fever and abdominal pain was diagnosed with acute calculous cholangitis. On ERCP, a needle-knife precut papillotomy was performed from the orifice because of difficult cannulation. Because of unintentional guidewire insertion into the MPD from the orifice, a PS with bilateral flaps was promptly placed to prevent post-ERCP pancreatitis...

BACKGROUND: It remains controversial whether the current subtypes of kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP) can be used to predict the prognosis independently. OBJECTIVE: This observational study aimed to identify a risk signature based on necroptotic pro-cess-related genes (NPRGs) in KIRP. METHODS: In the training cohort, LASSO regression was applied to construct the risk signature from 158 NPRGs, followed by the analysis of Overall Survival (OS) using the Kaplan-Meier method...

BACKGROUND: Sub-centrimetric papillary thyroid carcinomas usually have a good prognosis with a cancer specific survival of > 99%, however in up to 65% of patients, lymph node metastases can be observed. Molecular alterations in BRAF, TERT and TP53 are associated with worse clinicopathological outcome in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-two cases of papillary thyroid carcinomas measuring ≤ 1 cm with synchronous lymph node metastases were examined regarding morphological patterns and immunohistochemical status of p53, Ki-67, and BRAF V600E status...

Mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma (MTSCC) shows significant overlap with papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC), and harbor recurrent copy-number alterations (CNA). We evaluated 16 RCC with features suggestive of MTSCC using chromosomal microarrays. The cohort was comprised of 8 females and males, each, with an age range of 33-79 years (median, 59), and a tumor size range of 3.4-15.5 cm (median, 5.0). Half the tumors were high-grade (8/16, 50%) with features such as necrosis, marked cytologic atypia, and sarcomatoid differentiation, and 5/16 (31%) were high stage (≥pT3a)...

80% of renal carcinomas (RC) are diagnosed incidentally by imaging. 2-4% of "sporadic" multifocality and 5-8% of hereditary syndromes are accepted, probably with underestimation. Multifocality, young age, familiar history, syndromic data, and certain histologies lead to suspicion of hereditary syndrome. Each tumor must be studied individually, with a multidisciplinary evaluation of the patient. Nephron-sparing therapeutic strategies and a radioprotective diagnostic approach are recommended. Relevant data for the radiologist in major RC hereditary syndromes are presented: von-Hippel-Lindau, Chromosome-3 translocation, BRCA-associated protein-1 mutation, RC associated with succinate dehydrogenase deficiency, PTEN, hereditary papillary RC, Papillary thyroid cancer- Papillary RC, Hereditary leiomyomatosis and RC, Birt-Hogg-Dubé, Tuberous sclerosis complex, Lynch, Xp11...

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with marked cystic formation (CPTC) is not a subtype of PTC, and its clinical characteristics have not been fully investigated. This study aimed to clarify the clinical and pathological characteristics of CPTC and propose important indicators for its clinical management. 33 CPTC nodules with cystic areas occupying >50% of their volume were examined. Two matched controls (AC) were prepared, one with tumor diameter matched for whole tumor diameter (WTD) of CPTCs (WTD-MC) and the other with tumor diameter matched for solid area diameter (SAD) of CPTCs...

Chirality is an essential nature of biological systems. However, it remains obscure how the handedness at the microscale is translated into chiral morphogenesis at the tissue level. Here, we investigate three-dimensional (3D) tissue morphogenesis using an active fluid theory invoking chirality. We show that the coordination of achiral and chiral stresses, arising from microscopic interactions and energy input of individual cells, can engender the self-organization of 3D papillary and helical structures. The achiral active stress drives the nucleation of asterlike topological defects, which initiate 3D out-of-plane budding, followed by rodlike elongation...

Obesity's role in thyroid cancer development is still debated, as well as its association with aggressive histopathological subtypes (AHSs).
