Objective: To study the treatment and outcome of the patients with probable BPPV who lacked typical nystagmus. Method: Nine hundred and twenty-two patients with posterior canal BPPV or lateral canal BPPV were selected from the database of our department. There were 801 patients with typical nystagmus during positional testing and 121 patients lacked of typical nystagmus. Manual reposition (Eply, modified Semount,Barbecue and Li manuve) were used and the follow-up was(3.7±2.5)days. Result: In the patients with probable BPPV,there were 44 patients affected by posterior canal and 77 patients had been affected by lateral canal...

Vagal maneuvers cause increase in vagal tone, which has been shown to slow many types supraventricular tachycardia, such as atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the conversion of AF to sinus rhythm is usually not associated with vagal manuvers. Thus, AF is classically treated with medication and electrical cardioversion. Here, we present a 29-year-old male with no cardiovascular history and a low atherosclerotic risk profile who developed AF which converted into sinus rhythm immediately after a digital rectal exam...

OBJECTIVES: Ischemic preconditioning (IP) affords resistance to liver ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury, providing an early phase of protection. Development of delayed IP against IR injury was assessed using partial IR in rat liver. METHODS: The IP manuver (10 minutes of ischemia and up to 72 hours of reperfusion) was induced before 1 hour of ischemia and 20 hours of reperfusion. At the end of the reperfusion period, blood and liver samples were analyzed for serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), haptoglobin and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels, hepatic histology, protein carbonyl and glutathione (GSH) contents as well as nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB), and activating protein-1 (AP-1) DNA binding...

OBJECTIVE: To study the risk factors of postoperative short-term mortality after lung resection. METHOD: Retrospective analysis on 46 cases ongoing lung resection but died within 1 month postoperatively. RESULTS: There were 37 males and 9 females in this group, aging 38-74 years old. The mortalities be of the group > or = 60 year-old and below 60 were 1.23% and 0.45% (P < 0.01), respectively. The short-term mortalities of the group of pneumonectomy and partial lung resection were 0...
