BACKGROUND Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a neutrophilic inflammatory disease associated with inflammatory and autoimmune conditions and malignancies. Previously identified links between PG and cancer have included hematological malignancies, solid-organ tumors such as gastric adenocarcinoma, and breast cancer. While specific histologic subtypes of breast cancer such as ductal carcinoma have been associated with PG of the extremities, the literature is limited on the association between PG and cutaneous metastatic lobular carcinoma...

Although AA amyloidosis is primarily caused by inflammatory conditions, associations between AA amyloidosis and solid cancers have occasionally been described. Herein, we report the case of a 48-year-old man in whom resection of a proliferating pilomatricoma with deposition of AA amyloid resulted in remission of concomitant AA gastrointestinal amyloidosis. A rapidly growing, giant, reddish, ulcerated tumor measuring 16 × 13 cm in size was identified on the upper left arm on a visit to our hospital...

BACKGROUND: As an oncologic emergency related to abnormalities in calcium metabolism, hypercalcemia associated with paraneoplastic syndrome and bone metastases is well known. Meanwhile, the incidence of hypocalcemia is low, except in cases associated with bone-modifying agents used for bone metastases. Hypocalcemia induced by bone-modifying agents typically occurs early after the initial administration, and its incidence can be significantly reduced by preventive administration of calcium and vitamin D3 supplements...

BACKGROUND: Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS) is a genomic imprinting disorder caused by diverse genetic and/or epigenetic disorders of chromosome 11p15.5. BWS presents with a variety of clinical features, including overgrowth and an increased risk of embryonal tumors. Notably however, reports of patients with BWS and breast tumors are rare, and the association between these conditions is still unclear. Insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF2) expression is known to be associated with the development of various cancers, including breast cancer, and patients with BWS with specific subtypes of molecular defects are known to show characteristic clinical features and IGF2 overexpression...

PURPOSE: Accounting for about 15% of invasive lobular carcinomas and 1% of breast carcinomas, pleomorphic lobular carcinoma is known to be a rare histological subtype of invasive lobular carcinoma. Yet, it is more aggressive and produces a worse prognosis than other breast cancers. Ultimately, the present study compares the clinicopathological features of pleomorphic and invasive lobular breast carcinomas. METHODS: In the study, we retrospectively evaluated the data of 262 patients with histological subtypes of classical and pleomorphic lobular cancers having been recruited for surgical operations...

Invasive lobular breast cancer (ILC) differs from invasive breast cancer of no special type in many ways. Evidence on treatment efficacy for ILC is, however, lacking. We studied the degree of documentation and representation of ILC in phase III/IV clinical trials for novel breast cancer treatments. Trials were identified on Pubmed and clinicaltrials.gov. Inclusion/exclusion criteria were reviewed for requirements on histological subtype and tumor measurability. Documentation of ILC was assessed and ILC inclusion rate, central pathology and subgroup analyses were evaluated...

Papillary carcinoma of the breast is a rare histologic subtype of invasive breast cancer. In contrast, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a noninvasive, nonobligate precursor to invasive mammary carcinoma, confined within the terminal duct lobular unit of the breast and surrounded by an intact myoepithelial cell layer at the stromal/epithelial interface. We present an unusual case in which a patient with only DCIS of the breast exhibited papillary carcinoma within a sentinel lymph node, leading to questions about the origin of the lymph node lesion-whether it represents a true metastasis or iatrogenic displacement during diagnostic procedures...

Accurate staging of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), a subtype of breast cancer, is vital for effective clinical management. Although 18 F-FDG PET/CT is a commonly used tool, its efficacy varies across different histologic subtypes. To mitigate this challenge, our investigation delves into the potential utility of 68 Ga-fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) PET/CT as an alternative for staging ILC, aiming to address a significant research gap using a more expansive patient cohort than the smaller samples commonly found in the existing literature...

Male breast cancer (MBC) accounts for approximately 1% of all breast cancers and among these infiltrating lobular carcinomas (ILC) represents only 1-2% of all MBC cases. Pleomorphic invasive lobular carcinoma (PILC) is an aggressive variant of ILC with only eight cases reported until now in males. Up to 10% of MBC cases have a germline pathogenic variant in a predisposing gene such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Mutations in PALB2 (partner and localizer of BRCA2) have been reported in men with breast cancer, with a frequency that ranges from 0...

BACKGROUND: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) refers to a group of heritable connective tissue disorders (HCTDs). Clinical hallmarks of EDS include tissue fragility, joint hypermobility, and skin hyperextensibility. One of the consequences of tissue fragility is abnormal wound healing and scar formation, posing potential challenges for surgeons treating these patients. There are limited previous reports of EDS patients undergoing mastectomy and/or breast reconstruction, and none wherein the patient had diagnoses of both vascular EDS (vEDS) and classical EDS (cEDS)...

Breast cancer rarely metastasizes to the intestinal tract. It is even more uncommon to find intestinal metastasis as the first sign of distant spread. We describe an atypical case of small and large bowel carcinomas arising from primary breast cancer and presenting as the first evidence of distant metastasis. Clinicians should therefore consider the possibility of gastrointestinal (GI) metastasis when patients with breast cancer present with GI symptoms.

The application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has made extraordinary achievements in tumor treatment. Among them, programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors can improve the prognosis of advanced tumors, and have been widely used in clinical practice to treat many types of cancers. However, excessive immune response can also induce immune-related adverse events (irAEs) involving many organs. Of these, immune-related liver injury is the relatively common and carries the highest morbidity, which has attracted the attention of hepatologists all over the world...
