A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the Tinnitus Impact Questionnaire (TIQ) was performed. In contrast to commonly used tinnitus questionnaires, the TIQ is intended solely to assess the impact of tinnitus by not including items related to hearing loss or tinnitus loudness. This was a psychometric study based on a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of clinical data. Data were available for 155 new patients who had attended a tinnitus and hyperacusis clinic in the UK within a five-month period and had completed the TIQ...

Dietary diversity is crucial in ensuring food and nutrition security. In low-middle-income countries, people frequently prioritize the quantity of food they consume over its quality due to a lack of availability and financial limitations. As a result, achieving dietary diversity is often overlooked in favor of ensuring adequate caloric intake. Through a social cognitive theory perspective, our study examines the relationship between food demonstrations and household dietary diversity in Ghana's Upper West Region utilizing cross-sectional survey data from 517 smallholder farmer households...

Psychopathy is a severe personality disorder marked by a wide range of emotional deficits, including a lack of empathy, emotion dysregulation, and alexithymia. Previous research has largely examined these emotional impairments in isolation, ignoring their influence on each other. Thus, we examined the concurrent interrelationship between emotional impairments in psychopathy, with a particular focus on the mediating role of alexithymia. Using path analyses with cross-sectional data from a community sample (N = 315) and a forensic sample (N = 50), our results yielded a statistically significant mediating effect of alexithymia on the relationship between psychopathy and empathy (community and forensic) and between psychopathy and emotion dysregulation (community)...

BACKGROUND: Recent reports indicated accelerated rates of e-cigarette use, especially among youth in various Middle Eastern countries, including Palestine. Nevertheless, little is known about knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding this topic in Palestine. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of e-cigarette use among Palestinian university students, along with their knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions about e-cigarette use. METHODS: An observational cross-sectional study, utilizing an online self-administered questionnaire, was conducted on Palestinian students from five universities between 17/04/2023 and 04/11/2023...

Family members' perceptions of challenges associated with military life can spillover to their relationships with one another and, in turn, inform service members' beliefs of how their work impacts family life. The current study examined connections between active-duty fathers', civilian mothers', and adolescents' perceptions of military-related stress, adolescents' perceptions of quality of family relationships (i.e. parent-adolescent relationships), and service members' perceived work-family impact (specifically work-related guilt and work-related enrichment)...

CONTEXT: Use of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD) has become common irrespective of age and parity. To date, only a few studies have examined its possible metabolic changes and large-scale biomarker profiles in detail and in a longitudinal design. OBJECTIVE: To apply the metabolomics technique to examine the metabolic profile associated with the use of LNG-IUD both in a cross-sectional and in a longitudinal design. DESIGN: The study consists of cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of a population-based survey (Health 2000) and its 11-year follow-up (Health 2011)...

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) represented an international health risk. Variants of the interferon-induced transmembrane protein-3 ( IFITM3 ) gene can increase the risk of developing severe viral infections. This cross-sectional study investigated the association between IFITM3 rs12252A>G single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and COVID-19 severity and mortality in 100 Egyptian patients. All participants were subjected to serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) determination by ELISA and IFITM3 rs12252 genotyping by real-time polymerase chain reaction...
