There is a need in orthopaedic and craniomaxillofacial surgeries for materials that are easy to handle and apply to a surgical site, can fill and fully conform to the bone defect, and can promote the formation of new bone tissue. Thermoresponsive polymers that undergo liquid to gel transition at physiological temperature can potentially be used to meet these handling and shape-conforming requirements. Thirteen female Rhesus macaques were intramuscularly injected with Sr(NO3)2 diluted in sodium citrate solution. The biokinetic data from these animals were compared against the predictions of the NCRP 156 wound models combined with the ICRP systemic models. This one-year double blind randomized control trial assessed the effects of nightly melatonin, strontium (citrate), vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 (MK7; MSDK) on bone mineral density (BMD) and quality of life (QOL) in postmenopausal osteopenic women (ages 49-75). Compared to placebo, MSDK treatment increased BMD in lumbar spine (4.3%) and left femoral neck (2.2%), with an upward trend for total left hip (p=0.069). Uniform and well-dispersed SrWO4 microspheres have been successfully synthesized through a hydrothermal method by using trisodium citrate and SDS as surfactants. XRD and SEM results demonstrate that the as-synthesized SrWO4 particles are high purity well crystallized and exhibit a relatively uniform spherical morphology. We report molecular functionalization of the promising manganite nanoparticles La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) for their solubilization in aqueous environments. The functionalization of individual NPs with the biocompatible citrate ligand, as confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, reveals that citrates are covalently attached to the surface of the NPs. Multifunctional strontium hydroxyapatite (SrHAp) nanorods with luminescent and mesoporous properties have been successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. SEM and TEM images indicate that the mesoporous SrHAp samples consist of monodiperse nanorods with lengths of 120-150 nm, diameters of around 20 nm, and the mesopore size of 3-5 nm.
