Osteoporosis stands out as a prevalent skeletal ailment, prompting exploration into potential treatments, including dietary strontium ion supplements. This study assessed the efficacy of supplementation of three strontium forms-strontium citrate (SrC), strontium ranelate (SrR), and strontium chloride (SrCl)-for enhancing bone structure in 50 female SWISS mice, aged seven weeks. In total, 40 mice underwent ovariectomy, while 10 underwent sham ovariectomy. Ovariectomized (OVX) mice were randomly assigned to the following groups: OVX (no supplementation), OVX + SrR, OVX + SrC, and OVX + SrCl, at concentrations equivalent to the molar amount of strontium...

In this study, silica-encapsulated gadolinium was doped in lanthanum strontium manganite nanoparticles (NPs) with different concentrations using the citrate-gel auto-combustion method. We focused on tuning the Curie temperature and enhancing the specific absorption rate (SAR) of silica-coated gadolinium-doped lanthanum strontium manganite NPs to make them suitable for self-controlled magnetic hyperthermia. The samples were characterized by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and magnetic measurements to examine the structural, optical, and magnetic properties of the manganite NPs...

We report electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding efficiency in the PANI-wrapped BaFe12 O19 and SrFe12 O19 with rGO composites. Barium and strontium hexaferrites were synthesized using the nitrate citrate gel combustion method. These hexaferrites were polymerized in situ with aniline. The PANI-coated ferrite-based composite materials were developed along with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) polymer, and their shielding effectiveness was assessed in X-band frequency range (8...

In this work, complex studies of the structure and magnetic properties of SrFe12-x Inx O19 powders obtained by the mechanochemical and citrate methods were carried out. The solubility of In in strontium hexaferrite SrFe₁₂O₁₉ at 1200 °C was determined. The structure and properties of the powders were studied using X-ray diffraction analysis, Mössbauer spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Measurements of magnetic properties in magnetic fields up to 1600 kA/m were also performed...

Dental implant clinical success is dependent on effective peri-implant tissue attachment to the trans-mucosal portion following placement. Modification of transmucosal implant surfaces can improve cellular adhesion and function leading to formation of an effective soft-tissue seal during healing, of which gingival fibroblasts are prominent cells to migrate to repair wounds and crucial for the development of a collagen rich connective tissue. Biocompatible loaded scaffold materials have been developed to allow local release of molecules with effective biological activity...

Strontium chloride added to aqueous suspensions of metastable calcium citrate tetrahydrate increased calcium ion activity measured electrochemically without transition of metastable tetrahydrate to stable calcium citrate hexahydrate as shown by DSC. Calcium activity increase was explained by lower solubility of strontium citrate pentahydrate formed (8.9 × 10-4 M at 25 °C) increasing with temperature compared to calcium citrate tetrahydrate (1.6 × 10-3 M) decreasing with temperature. Strontium binding to citrate was found endothermic, ΔH0  = 45 kJ∙mol-1 at 25 °C, while calcium binding shows variation from ΔH0  = 94 kJ∙mol-1 at 10 °C becoming exothermic above physiological temperature with ΔH0  = -9 kJ∙mol-1 at 45 °C as determined from temperature and concentration variation in electric conductivity...

This Sr-HA cement was mainly composed of HA and α-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and exhibited favorable injectability (100%), setting times (the initial setting time was 240 s and the final setting time was 420 s), compressive strength (73...

The catalytic activity of Sr2 PdO3 , prepared through the sol-gel citrate-combustion method for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in a 0.1 M HClO4 solution, was investigated. The electrocatalytic activity of Sr2 PdO3 toward OER was assessed via the anodic potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The glassy carbon modified Sr2 PdO3 (GC/Sr2 PdO3 ) electrode exhibited a higher electrocatalytic activity, by about 50 times, in comparison to the unmodified electrode. The order of the reaction was close to unity, which indicates that the adsorption of the hydroxyl groups is a fast step...

Strontium is a naturally occurring alkaline earth metal that has been shown to be useful not only in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, but also in the oral cavity in the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity as well as an effective cariostatic, anti-plaque, anti-gingivitis agent. Relatively little is known, however, regarding the effects of strontium on gingival fibroblasts. The purpose of this present investigation was to conduct in vitro studies on the potential for strontium to positively affect the activity of these cells such that it might be effective in the enhancement of gingival attachment to surfaces such as healing abutments in implants in the oral cavity...

This paper proposes a new method for producing nano-SrFe12 O19 powder by the citrate precursor route using solid waste as a source of iron. This solid iron-containing waste, which exists in the form of an oily sludge, is produced by a cold rolling mill. This sludge was first subjected to a process, including sulfuric acid leaching, oxidation, precipitation, and nitric acid leaching, to obtain an iron nitrate (Fe(NO3 )3 ) solution. Next, the Fe(NO3 )3 solution was mixed with a strontium nitrate (Sr(NO3 )2 ) solution obtained by subjecting strontium carbonate to nitric acid leaching...

The unicellular model alga Micrasterias denticulata inhabits acid peat bogs that are highly endangered by pollutants due to their high humidity. As it was known from earlier studies that algae like Micrasterias are capable of storing barium naturally in form of BaSO4 crystals, it was interesting to experimentally investigate distribution and sequestration of barium and the chemically similar alkaline earth metal strontium. Additionally, we intended to analyze whether biomineralization by crystal formation contributes to diminution of the generally toxic effects of these minerals to physiology and structure of this alga which is closely related to higher plants...

There is a need in orthopaedic and craniomaxillofacial surgeries for materials that are easy to handle and apply to a surgical site, can fill and fully conform to the bone defect, and can promote the formation of new bone tissue. Thermoresponsive polymers that undergo liquid to gel transition at physiological temperature can potentially be used to meet these handling and shape-conforming requirements. However, there are no reports on their capacity to induce in vivo bone formation. The objective of this research was to investigate whether the functionalization of the thermoresponsive, antioxidant macromolecule poly(poly-ethyleneglycol citrate-co-N-isopropylacrylamide) (PPCN), with strontium, phosphate, and/or the cyclic RGD peptide would render it a hydrogel with osteoinductive properties...
