BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To assess the vitamin D nutritional status (VDN) of pregnant women in early pregnancy and investigate the effects of periconceptional supplementation with multiple micronutrients (MMs) on this status. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN: Data were taken from the Pregnancy Health Care System and Hospital Information System in 2018 in Beijing. Vitamin D nutritional status in early pregnancy was evaluated among 4,978 pregnant women, and 4,540 women who took folic acid only (FA) or multiple mi-cronutrients supplements (MM) during the periconceptional period, were include to estimate the associations between periconceptional supplementation with MM and prevalence of vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency with logistic regression model...

The optical characteristics of folic acid (ABP) and metal clusters of copper (Cu3 ) at various locations were investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) computations. Mulliken charge analysis and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surface show how charge moves from Cu3 to ABP through the various groups. The peak in the UV-Vis spectra of ABP-Cu3 is caused by bonding and anti-bonding orbitals. In both vacuum and aqueous conditions, the polarizability values of ABP-Cu3 cluster are significantly higher than those of pure ABP, indicating a possible enhancement of the nonlinear optical (NLO) effect...

It has been suggested that hematological parameters seems to be considered as an etiologic factor. So, this meta-analysis and systematic review was aimed to examine the relationship between RAS and hematological parameters. METHODS: Relevant studies were found using online international databases including Scopus, Science direct, Web of science (ISI), PubMed, and Google Scholar search engine between 2000 and October 2023...

Hyperthermia can be integrated with tumor-killing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy to give rise to an anti-tumor response. To this end, a nano-delivery system is built, which can connect hyperthermia and immunotherapy. On this basis, the impact of such a combination on the immune function of dendritic cells (DCs) is explored. The core of this system is the photothermal material gold nanorod (GNR), and its surface is covered with a silica shell. Additionally, it also forms a hollow mesoporous structure using the thermal etching approach, followed by modification of targeted molecule folic acid (FA) on its surface, and eventually forms a hollow mesoporous silica gold nanorod (GNR@void@mSiO2) modified by FA...

A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 26,379 pregnant women who established the Maternal and Child Health Record and gave birth from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 in a community health service center in Haidian district, Beijing. The study analyzed factors such as maternal age, ethnicity, education level, prepregnancy body mass index (BMI), parity, folic acid supplementation, gestational diabetes mellitus, gestational hyper, hypothyroidism in pregnancy (including subhypothyroidism), hyperthyroidism in pregnancy, and infant gender...

Cervical ectopic pregnancies account for <1% of ectopic pregnancies. Early diagnosis may reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with treatment. A 43-year-old woman, gravida 4 para 2, presented at 5 + 6 weeks of gestation of pregnancy via in vitro fertilisation with painless vaginal bleeding. Her initial serum β-hCG level was 51,495 mIU/mL. A direct strategy to achieve specific treatments and reduce side effects is through cell type-specific drug delivery. Exosomes (Exos) can be modified with folic acid (FA) to prepare drug delivery systems targeting tumor cells that highly express FA receptors. This study aimed to produce an exo drug delivery system with FA decoration and temozolomide (TMZ) loading to improve the sustained TMZ release and targeting. End-stage renal disease is a worldwide health burden, but the pathogenesis of uremia-associated cognitive impairment (CI) is poorly recognized. We hypothesized that uremia brings about deficiency of thiamin and folic acid and causes CI by inducing oxidative stress. Therefore, 24 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two groups: a 5/6 nephrectomy group ( n  = 12) and a sham-operated group ( n  = 12). The Morris water maze was used to assess the cognitive function eight weeks post-surgery, and serum levels of thiamin, folic acid and homocysteine were detected subsequently...

Folate, also known as vitamin B9, facilitates the transfer of methyl groups among molecules, which is crucial for amino acid metabolism and nucleotide synthesis. Adequate maternal folate supplementation has been widely acknowledged for its pivotal role in promoting cell proliferation and preventing neural tube defects. However, in the post-fortification era, there has been a rising concern regarding an excess maternal intake of folic acid (FA), the synthetic form of folate. In this review, we focused on recent advancements in understanding the influence of excess maternal FA intake on offspring...

Pregnancy is an extremely stressful period in a pregnant woman's life. Currently, women's awareness of the proper course of pregnancy and its possible complications is constantly growing. Therefore, a significant percentage of women increasingly reach for various dietary supplements during gestation. Some of the most popular substances included in multi-ingredient supplements are folic acid and choline. Those substances are associated with positive effects on fetal intrauterine development and fewer possible pregnancy-associated complications...

Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) can cause a variety of malignancies. Ganciclovir (GCV) is one of the most efficient drugs against KSHV, but its non-specificity can cause other side effects in patients. Nucleic acid miR-34a-5p can inhibit the transcription of KSHV RNA and has great potential in anti-KSHV therapy, but there are still problems such as easy degradation and low delivery efficiency. Here, we constructed a co-loaded dual-drug nanocomplex (GCV@ZIF-8/PEI-FA+miR-34a-5p) that contains GCV internally and adsorbs miR-34a-5p externally...

However, its potential for a protective effect against kidney injury remains unknown. We hypothesized that GC might be able to protect against AKI via suppression of ferroptosis...
