Bronchogenic cyst is a benign lesion with congenital dysplasia. Although the occurrence of this type of cyst is rare in the retroperitoneum, the presence of fluid-fluid levels is an even rarer phenomenon in bronchogenic cysts. Therefore, it can be easily misdiagnosed due to the lack of a universal guideline of specific imaging manifestations. The present report describes the case of a patient with a bronchogenic cyst with fluid-fluid levels whilst also performing a brief literature review to summarize the findings of previous reports on this condition...

A 43-year-old man developed headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, and vomiting. His blood pressure was 203/121 mmHg, heart rate 122 beats/min, body temperature 39.1 °C, and respiratory rate 24/min. He had elevated levels of creatinine at 2.95 mg/dL and lipase at 1,364 U/L as well as an extremely low calcium level at 5.2 mg/dL. Hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia were seen. Chest and abdominal computed tomography showed interstitial pneumonia, severe pancreatitis, and a right adrenal tumor. The patient also developed vertebral artery dissection and medullary infarction...

Keratinizing desquamative squamous metaplasia (KDSM) of the upper urinary tract is a rare entity. The present case is of a 45-year-old female patient with an 8-month history of abdominal lump, recurrent right lumbar pain, intermittent fever, and oliguria. Computed tomography kidney, ureter, and bladder revealed a grossly enlarged right kidney along with heterogeneously enhancing soft tissue density mass and internal septations. A differential diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma, urothelial carcinoma, tuberculosis, and pyonephrosis of the kidney was considered as per the clinical and radiological presentation...

BACKGROUND: Most patients with parathyroid adenomas are asymptomatic and rarely present with chronic pancreatitis (CP). Several studies have reported a positive association between primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and pancreatitis. Parathyroidectomy is the definitive treatment for PHPT. IV bisphosphonates can be considered the drug of choice for bridge to surgery. METHODS: We reported a 57-year-old female patient was admitted to the emergency room with left upper quadrant abdominal pain and a diagnosis of recurrent pancreatitis...

BACKGROUND: Some reports have pointed out that calcimimetics agents are effective in the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, but there is no detailed description of the advantages and disadvantages of calcimimetics agents of SHPT in CKD patients. We tried to pool the published data to verify the effectiveness of calcimimetics agents and to compare the advantages and disadvantages of cinacalcet compared with control in the treatment of SHPT in CKD patients...

Introduction: Posterior Cul-de-sac rupture is a rare delivery complication and a diagnostic challenge to every obstetrician. The associated predisposing factors include genital anomalies (such as vaginal atresia), the use of misoprostol to induce delivery, previous pelvic infection, and caesarean scar. Herein, we report the case of a posterior Cul-de-sac rupture without any disposing risk factor. Case presentation: A 27-year-old G5P4 pregnant woman at the 33rd week of gestation presented with spontaneous onset of labor, the administration of calcium channel blockers failed to stop her active labor, which progressed with a spontaneous rupture of membranes...

BACKGROUND: Acute pancreatitis (AP) presenting as an initial manifestation of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is uncommon, and its timely diagnosis is crucial in preventing recurrent attacks of pancreatitis. AIM: To determine the clinical, biochemical, and radiological profile of PHPT patients presenting as AP. METHODS: This is a retrospective observational study, 51 consecutive patients admitted with the diagnosis of PHPT during January 2010 and October 2021 at a tertiary care hospital in Puducherry, India was included...

Background: Hypercalcemic crisis caused by primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in pediatric patients is very rare, and appropriate treatment approach for this condition has not been well demonstrated. Here, we report a case of PHPT-induced hypercalcemic crisis in a boy. Case Description: An 11-year-old boy visited the clinic with abdominal pain and nausea that lasted for 3 months, but the cause of his symptoms could not be identified. Dehydration and acidosis increase the risk for urinary stone formation. Urinary stones have been reported in three pediatric cases of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). A 24-h urine collection was performed for two of the three children. One patient had high urine sodium levels, while the other had low urine citrate excretion. We report the case of a 12-yr-old adolescent boy with urinary stones, new-onset type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D), and DKA, excluding other metabolic disorders. After DKA was diagnosed, the patient received a 0...

A 35-year-old female presented with abdominal pain, fever, projectile vomiting, and a diffuse tender epigastric mass. She was diagnosed to have acute persistent pancreatitis with a pancreatic pseudocyst. Elevated serum calcium levels provided an etiologic link between hypercalcemia and pancreatitis. On examination, a nodule was found in the left side of her neck which was later diagnosed as a giant left inferior parathyroid adenoma. This report highlights the critical analysis of history, examination, and investigations to reach an ultimate diagnosis...

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is rarely seen in the paediatric population and is typically not associated with those aetiologies seen in adult pancreatitis. This case describes a 12-year-old female who presented with acute abdominal pain and constipation, with biochemical evidence of elevated serum amylase, calcium (Ca) and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. A diagnosis of AP was made, which was settled with conservative management. Further investigations, namely CT and technetium 99m (Tc-99m) sestamibi scans, revealed a solitary parathyroid adenoma...

A Japanese woman in her 40s came to our emergency room with vomiting and upper abdominal pain after drinking a bottle of milk tea at home. She had a history of bipolar disorder. Blood tests revealed hypercalcemia (calcium level of 18.6mg/dl). Abdominal computed tomography depicted thickening of the gastric wall and hyperabsorbed material in the stomach. Upper gastroduodenal endoscopy showed extreme mucosal redness from the gastric body to the pylorus. The hypercalcemia improved with intravenous infusion of zoledronic acid...

An outbreak of possible acute poisoning by Sinapis arvensis occurred in a flock of 50 fat-tailed sheep located in the Semnan province of Iran. Sinapis arvensis is an annual or winter annual plant of the genus Sinapis in the family Brassicaceae, commonly known as field mustard, wild mustard or charlock. The poisonous constituents are volatile oil of mustard, the alkaloid sinapin, and the alkaloidal glucoside sinalbin. The flock was grazing in land containing high amounts of wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis) in late spring...

BACKGROUND: Although acute pancreatitis associated with hyperparathyroidism has occasionally been reported, acute pancreatitis with metabolic encephalopathy caused by hyperparathyroidism combined with paraneoplastic syndrome is an extremely rare entity and poorly described in the literature. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of lanthanum carbonate (LC) versus calcium salts, non-LC phosphate binders (PBs), sevelamer, or placebo in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted up to 18 June 2021. Data acquisition and quality assessment were performed by two reviewers. Meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the serum biochemical parameters, adverse events, and patient-level outcomes of LC, non-LC PBs, and sevelamer for hyperphosphatemia in patients with CKD...
