Anatomic variants of hepatic ligaments are rare, and complications attributable to these variants may be difficult to diagnose. Our aim is to contribute to the literature surrounding the incidental finding of a congenital absence of the falciform ligament. We report the case of a 37-year-old man who underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis. During the operation, the patient was noted to have an apparent absence of the falciform ligament attachment to the liver. The round ligament was attached from the liver to the anterior abdominal wall at the level of the umbilicus...

Scientific research requires objectivity, impartiality and stringency. However, scholarly literature is littered with preliminary and explorative findings that lack reproducibility or validity. Some low-quality papers with perceived high impact have become publicly notable. The collective effort of fellow researchers who follow these false leads down blind alleys and impasses is a waste of time and resources, and this is particularly damaging for early career researchers. Furthermore, the lay public might also be affected by socioeconomic repercussions associated with the findings...

INTRODUCTION: While digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) has proven to enhance cancer detection and reduce recall rates (RR), its integration into BreastScreen Australia for screening has been limited, in part due to perceived cost implications. This study aims to assess the cost effectiveness of digital mammography (DM) compared with synthesized mammography and DBT (SM + DBT) in a first round screening context for short-term outcomes. METHODS: Clients recalled for nonspecific density (NSD) as a single lesion by both readers at the Northern Sydney Central Coast BreastScreen service in 2019 were included...

DNA is commonly employed as a substrate for the building of artificial logic networks due to its excellent biocompatibility and programmability. Till now, DNA logic circuits are rapidly evolving to accomplish advanced operations. Nonetheless, nowadays, most DNA circuits remain to be disposable and lack of field programmability and thereby limits their practicability. Herein, inspired by the Configurable Logic Block (CLB), the CLB-based erasable field-programmable DNA circuit that uses clip strands as its operation-controlling signals is presented...

In July 2022, typical symptoms of a rust disease were observed on C. coreana at Jirisan National Park (35°22'07.7"N 127°34'57.7"E) in Namwon, South Korea. Spermogonia were epiphyllous, densely grouped, pale brown or orange-yellow, round, and 0.23 - 0.38 × 0.19 - 0.41 mm in size...

Globally, chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the most economically important and widely cultivated crop which elicits ethnomedicinal and nutritional potential as well as enhancing the taste and aroma of foods (Ayob et al., 2022; Kiran et al., 2020). Anthracnose disease is regarded as a prime constraint in chilli production, leading to enormous losses in tropical and subtropical countries. Bacaba ( Oenocarpus bacaba Mart.) is a native palm tree from Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado biomes. This tree produces a small, rounded fruit with dark skin and approximately 1.5 mm thick pulp, extensively utilized for palm heart extraction, juices, and jellies (De Cól et al. 2021). However, several diseases can adversely impact fruit yield and quality. During the 2021 growing season, anthracnose symptoms were observed in Bacaba fruits, with a disease incidence of 58% in fruits collected from the Abreulândia (9°37'15″ S, 49°9'3″ W) and Gurupi (12°25'46" S; 49°16'42" W) municipalities in Tocantins state, Brazil...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare condition affecting less than 5/10,000 people, with high misdiagnosis due to its heterogeneity, inconsistent nomenclature, and diverse diagnostic criteria. Understanding its prevalence in this age group is crucial for effective treatment. Here we present a case report of a patient with AVM. IRB approval and patient consent were obtained. This study was done based on SCARE criteria. CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a right hip vascular mass suggestive of AVM...

Cell cycle events are coordinated by cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) to ensure robust cell division. CDK4/6 and CDK2 regulate the growth 1 (G1 ) to synthesis (S) phase transition of the cell cycle by responding to mitogen signaling, promoting E2F transcription and inhibition of the anaphase-promoting complex. We found that this mechanism was still required in G2 -arrested cells to prevent cell cycle exit after the S phase. This mechanism revealed a role for CDK4/6 in maintaining the G2 state, challenging the notion that the cell cycle is irreversible and that cells do not require mitogens after passing the restriction point...

Neurotropic alphaherpesviruses, including herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), recruit microtubule motor proteins to invade cells. The incoming viral particle traffics to nuclei in a two-step process. First, the particle uses the dynein-dynactin motor to sustain transport to the centrosome. In neurons, this step is responsible for long-distance retrograde axonal transport and is an important component of the neuroinvasive property shared by these viruses. Second, a kinesin-dependent mechanism redirects the particle from the centrosome to the nucleus...

BACKGROUND: Febrile neutropenia represents a critical oncologic emergency, and its management is pivotal in cancer therapy. In several guidelines, the use of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) in patients with chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia is not routinely recommended except in high-risk cases. The Japan Society of Clinical Oncology has updated its clinical practice guidelines for the use of G-CSF, incorporating a systematic review to address this clinical question...

PURPOSE: A computational method based on Monte-Carlo calculations is presented and used to calculate isodose curves for a new upright and tilting CT scanner useful for radiation protection purposes. METHODS: The TOPAS code platform with imported CAD files for key components was used to construct a calculation space for the scanner. A sphere of water acts as the patient would by creating scatter out of the bore. Maximum intensity dose maps are calculated for various possible tilt angles to make sure radiation protection for site planning uses the maximum possible dose everywhere...
