This systematic review paper aimed to assess and analyze the prevalence of maternal colonization of Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) also known as m ethicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus ( MSSA ) and m ethicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ( MRSA ) in the peripartum period and its significance on vertical transmission to the neonate and if it is a potential threat to the health of newborns. For this, multiple databases, such as PubMed, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, and the database of Elsevier, were used to scout for relevant articles, and results were reported adhering to the principles set by Preferred Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines 2020...

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to determine the presence of deep infiltrative endometriosis (DIE) in the surgical management of endometriosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Operation notes and histopathological reports of women with endometriosis were retrospectively analyzed in the Ege University Hospital between 2008 and 2018. A total of 191 women with suspicious of endometriosis but without clinical signs of DIE were enrolled in the study. Laparoscopic diagnosis of DIE was compared with histopathological reports...

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine if probiotic supplementation in pregnancy reduced maternal Group B streptococcus (GBS) recto-vaginal colonization in pregnant women at 35-37 weeks of gestation. Electronic databases (i.e., PubMed, MEDLINE, ClinicalTrials.gov, ScienceDirect, and the Cochrane Library) were searched from inception up to February 2022. We included RCTs assessing the effects of probiotic supplementation in pregnancy on GBS recto-vaginal colonization. The primary outcome was GBS-positive recto-vaginal cultures performed at 35-37 weeks of gestation...

The objective of the study was to evaluate effectiveness of digital rectal palpation technique for early pregnancy diagnosis and to compare results of experiments I and II in Red Sokoto goat. Experiment I had 68 goats with 52 does and 16 bucks. Does were divided into prostaglandin F2 -alpha (PGF2 α; n = 18), progesterone pessaries (P4 P; n = 18) and control (n = 16) groups as oestrus synchronisaton methods. Bucks were used for oestrus detection (n = 6) and breeding (n = 10). Comparative pregnancy diagnosis was carried out on day 21 post breeding using ultrasonography (US), digital rectal palpation (DRP), progesterone assay (PA), ballottement (BL) and non-return-to-heat (NRH)...

Streptococcus agalactiae is an important human opportunistic pathogen, especially infectious for pregnant women and neonates. This pathogen belongs to beta hemolytic Streptococcus spp. representatives and accounts for a significant part of early infections in newborns, including serious life-threatening infections. This research investigated the usefulness of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) protocol for S. agalactiae DNA detection in 250 samples of recto-vaginal swabs collected from pregnant women (at 35-37 weeks of gestation) and pre-cultured overnight in liquid medium...

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of including maternal age and BMI as additional risk factors in the traditional risk-based strategy at term pregnancies consisting of previous Early Onset GBS disease, GBS bacteriuria during pregnancy, maternal temperature ≥38.0°C intrapartum, and rupture of membranes ≥18 hours. METHODS: A secondary analysis of a Danish cohort including 902 pregnant women. Exposures were maternal age and pre-pregnancy BMI. Outcome was recto-vaginal GBS colonization at the time of labor...

OBJECTIVE: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infection remains to datey, without peripartum prophylaxis, the most common cause of vertically transmitted perinatal bacterial infection in the Western world. It is estimated that the prevalence of asymptomatic pregnant women with GBS in our country ranges between 10 and 20.5%, but there are few studies in this regard. With this research, we tried to establish the rate of pregnant women colonized by GBS at the recto-vaginal level at the time of delivery and to evaluate the validity of our strategy for the identification of pregnant women with GBS...

A rapid method for obtaining group B streptococcus (GBS) screening results has been required in the obstetric field. We aimed to determine the diagnostic performance of the Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) assay is acceptable compared to the existing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. The study involved 527 pregnant women aged 19 to 44 years. Rectovaginal swabs were collected between 35 and 37 weeks of gestation or prior to impending preterm births or term labor without GBS screening. We presented the diagnostic performance of the LAMP assay with a 95% confidence interval (CI) compared to the PCR and microbiological culture...

Anorectal malformations (ARM) in females are identified by abnormal location of the anal opening. Management is guided by clinical examination to find the number of perineal openings. Two openings in the perineum of a female may be seen in cases of imperforate anus without fistula, vaginal agenesis with vestibular fistula or imperforate anus with recto-vaginal fistula (RVF). We present a case series of ARM with RVF and discuss their diagnosis and management.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of adverse pregnancy outcomes due to invasive infection. This study investigated longitudinal variation in GBS rectovaginal colonisation, serum and vaginal GBS capsular polysaccharide (CPS)-specific antibody levels. Non-pregnant women were recruited in the UK, and were sampled every two weeks over a 12-week period. GBS isolates were taken from recto-vaginal swabs and serotyped by polymerase chain reaction. Serum and vaginal immunoglobulin G (IgG) and nasal immunoglobulin A (IgA) specific to CPS were measured by Luminex, and total IgG/A by ELISA...

AIM: Ano-rectovaginal fistulas (ARVF) are challenging for the surgeon. Most of the series mix aetiologies, leading to confusion with respect to the conclusion. The aim of this study was to assess the factors associated with the success of ARVF management following obstetrical anal sphincter injury (OASIS). METHODS: This retrospective multicentric study included all the patients undergoing surgery for ARVF identified by the hospital codes. Patients for whom the aetiology of ARVF was not OASIS were excluded...

Background: Maternal Group B Streptococcus (GBS) recto-vaginal colonization is the most common route for early onset neonatal GBS diseases. A good understanding of the rate of maternal GBS colonization, vertical transmission rate, and antibiotic susceptibility profiles is needed to formulate a broad protection mechanism, like vaccine preparation. For that reason, this meta-analysis aimed at determining the pooled prevalence of GBS recto-vaginal colonization, vertical transmission rate, and antibiotic susceptibility profiles in Ethiopia...

BACKGROUND: Traumatic rectal injuries are uncommon and can originate due to various causes. Rectal injuries have a high mor-bidity, regardless of cause, and detection at the time of occurrence is important to prevent fistula formation and/or stoma. In this article, treatment approaches in patients with isolated rectovaginal septum injury without perineal and sphincter injury during sponta-neous vaginal delivery are presented and the current literature is reviewed. METHODS: The records of spontaneous vaginal deliveries that resulted in live births between January 2015 and January 2020 were analyzed retrospectively at our center...

BACKGROUND: Our aim was to review the current knowledge of the role of fluorescence imaging for intraoperative intestinal assessment in gynecological surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A computer-based systematic review was performed from 2000 to 2020. All articles describing the use of indocyanine green (ICG) applied to bowel assessments in gynecology or endometriosis surgery were considered for review. RESULTS: ICG is an effective tool for assessing bowel vascularization, potentially preventing anastomotic leakage and recto-vaginal fistula and can therefore be useful for endometriosis surgery or bowel assessment in gynecological oncology procedures...
