Methamphetamine is one of the most common abused drugs, so its various effects on different body organs should be familiar to all physicians. Regarding its gastrointestinal sequels, there are few reports of ischemic colitis induced by its vasoconstrictive effects. This is the first report of isolated small intestinal infarction resulting in death following methamphetamine toxicity. A 40-year-old woman with a past history of medical treatment for obesity referred to hospital with severe chest and back pain, perspiration, nausea, agitation, high blood pressure, bradycardia and subsequent lethargy and vasomotor instability...

Paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP) is an autoimmune bullous disease associated with underlying neoplasms, both malignant and benign. The most constant clinical presentation of PNP is the presence of intractable stomatitis. Herein we present a 25-year-old male with a 3-month history of refractory stomatitis especially involving the lips and widespread vesiculobullous eruption on his trunk and extremities. The diagnosis of PNP was confirmed based on histological and serological results. Investigation for the underlying neoplasm revealed a retroperitoneal tumorous mass which was biopsied and diagnosed as the inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT)...

Despite evidence linking thyroxin use and breast cancer, little is known regarding the risk of other cancers with thyroxin use. The purpose of this case-control study was to evaluate the association of thyroid cancer with primary hypothyroidism based on a population-based database. The data for this case-control study were retrieved from the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2005. We included 1285 patients with thyroid cancer as cases and 3855 sex- and age-matched subjects as controls. We used conditional logistic regression to examine the association of thyroid cancer with previously diagnosed hypothyroidism...

BACKGROUND: Extravasation injury, a complication commonly seen in the neonatal intensive care unit, can result in scarring with cosmetic and functional sequelae. A wide variety of treatments are available, including subcutaneous irrigation with saline (with or without hyaluronidase), liposuction, use of specific antidotes, topical applications, and normal wound care with dry or wet dressings. All such treatments aim to prevent or reduce the severity of complications. OBJECTIVES: Primary objective To compare the efficacy and safety of saline irrigation or saline irrigation with prior hyaluronidase infiltration versus no intervention or normal wound care for tissue healing in neonates with extravasation injury...

Infertility is a worldwide problem and male partner contributes to almost 30% of cases of infertility. The term oligoasthenoteratospermia is related to defective spermatogenesis and is characterized by a reduction of motility and number of spermatozoa and a change in their morphology. Electron microscopes are frequently used in order to evaluate sperm pathology and overall to establish a correlation between structural and functional deficiencies of altered sperm. High levels of reactive oxygen species endanger sperm function and viability...
