PURPOSE: The high prevalence of positive family history of keratoconus (KC) in KC patients is well-known. However, the results regarding the association between family history of KC and disease severity are controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible association between family history and severity of KC. METHOD: Clinical data of 1496 KC patients were evaluated. All participants were asked if they had had a family member with KC. Topographic and keratometric measurements of KC patients, including central corneal thickness (CCT), thinnest corneal thickness (TCT), mean, flat, and steep keratometry values (K) by the use of Pentacam, best-spectacle corrected visual acuity (BCVA), spherical equivalent (SE), and astigmatism were recorded and compared according to patients with and without a family history of KC, first- or second-degree family members, and the number of family members with KC...

The process of formation of Marx line is studied in this article. Various theories have been proposed previously, in order to explain the mechanisms which lead to the development of Marx line. These theories are based on the characteristics of stained area and do not pay attention to the behavior of dye solution itself on the surface. The aim of this study is to investigate the latter behavior and introduce a new theory based on it, in order to explain the process of the Marx line formation. This study also introduces "Coffee Ring Effect" and its possible applications in explaining some ophthalmological phenomena...

The orbital hydatid cyst is a rare entity and although most of them are located in superolateral and superomedial angles of orbits, involvement of inferior sites is uncommon. We report a 12-year-old case of primary hydatid cyst situated in inferior rectus muscle which was undergone surgical removal. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used for differential diagnosis of hydatid cyst. Moreover, histological analysis was performed, after the cyst removal, to confirm the diagnosis. Early clinical and radiological evaluations and subsequent surgical excision is the mainstay of treatment and should be performed to prevent severe complications caused by the advanced and ruptured cysts...

Ocular lipodermoid cysts and solid dermoid tumors are choristomas which are described as normal tissue growth in an abnormal location. Congenital epibulbar lipodermoid comprises adipose tissue that is covered by connective tissue. They are usually located superotemporally, and basically tend not to involve the peripheral cornea. If the dermoid or lipodermoid is accompanied by other systemic conditions or ocular anomalies in young children, a consultation with an Internist or pediatrician is required to rule out Goldenhar syndrome which is a oculoauriculovertebral dysplasia...
