PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to assess the agreement of anterior segment optical coherence tomography with its older well-known opponent i.e., Sheimpflug imaging in evaluation of the cornea in normal and keratoconus subjects. METHODS: 107 normal and 56 keratoconus eyes were evaluated with the anterior segment optical coherence tomography followed by the Scheimpflug imaging. Parameters included axial keratometry data in both of steep and flat meridians, mean keratometry and the astigmatism values in the central 4...

BACKGROUND: Corneal transplantation is a surgery in which cornea is replaced by a donated one and can be completely penetrating keratoplasty (PK) or included a part of cornea deep lamellar keratoplasty (DLK). Although the functional results are limited by some complications, it is considered as one of the most successful surgeries. This study aimed to compare the refractive errors after same size corneal transplantation through DLK and PK methods in keratoconus patients over 20 years...

PURPOSE: To determine the change in corneal thickness through different phases of menstrual cycle in women who are in their productive age. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty healthy women with normal past medical history were enrolled in this prospective study. Central corneal thickness was measured with ultrasound pachymeter three times during a menstrual cycle: Beginning of the cycle (days 1-3), ovulation time, and at the end of cycle (days 27-32). We confirmed ovulation time with determining a peak in luteinizing hormone in urine...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and predictability of topography-guided treatments to enhance refractive status following other corneal surgical procedures. In a prospective case series study, 28 consecutive eyes of 26 patients with irregular astigmatism after radial keratotomy, corneal transplant, small hyperopic and myopic excimer laser optical zones, and corneal scars were operated. Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) (n = 8) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) (n = 20) were performed using the ALLEGRETTO WAVE excimer laser and topography-guided customized ablation treatment software...

PURPOSE: To compare the results of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) with Q-factor customized aspheric ablation and wavefront-guided customized ablation for correction of myopia compound with astigmatism. METHODS: Fifty-six patients were enrolled in this prospective controlled study. In each patient, one eye was randomly assigned for treatment with the Q-factor customized PRK (custom-Q study group) and the other eye treated with wavefront-guided customized PRK. Preoperative and 3-month postoperative manifest refraction, contrast sensitivity, visual acuity, aberrometry, and asphericity of the cornea were compared between the two groups...
