Antibacterial hydrogels have emerged as a promising approach for effective wound treatment. However, despite extensive research on the fabrication of antibacterial hydrogels, it remains challenging to develop injectable, biocompatible, transparent, and mass-producible hydrogels with antibacterial properties. In this study, we successfully fabricated an antibacterial drug-loaded composite hydrogel, named CC45 /OKG40 /HS, through a Schiff base reaction between carboxymethyl chitosan (CC) and oxidized konjac glucomannan (OKG), followed by the encapsulation of stevioside-stabilized honokiol (HS) micelles...

Multimetallic catalysts have demonstrated their high potential for the controlled synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), but their development requires a more complicated optimization than that of monometallic catalysts. Here, we employed Bayesian optimization (BO) to optimize the preparation of Co-Mo/Al2 O3 catalyst using wet impregnation, with the goal of maximizing carbon yield in the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis of CNTs. In the catalyst preparation process, we selected four parameters to optimize: the weight percentage of metal, the ratio of Co to Mo in the catalyst, the drying temperature, and the calcination temperature...

Collagen type I gels are widely used for the fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) in vitro gingival models. Unfortunately, their long-term stability is low, which limits the variety of in vitro applications. To overcome this problem, and achieve better hydrolytic stability of 3D gingival models, we are investigating fibrin-based hydrogel blends with increased long-term stability in vitro. We have tested two different fibrin-based hydrogels: Fibrin 2.5% (w/v) and Fibrin 1% (w/v)/Gelatin 5% (w/v). Appropriate numbers of primary human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) and OKG4/bmi1/TERT (OKG) keratinocytes are optimized to achieve homogeneous distribution of cells under the assumed 3D conditions...

Currently, combinations of natural polymers and semi-synthetic biomolecules have gained attention for food-packaging, drug delivery, coatings, and biomedical applications. In this work, cross-linking property of two biopolymers was employed for the fabrication of hydrogel films. Sodium alginate (SAlg) and Okra gel (OkG) were used in different ratios (95:05, 75:25 and 85:15) to synthesize hydrogel films by solvent-casting method. Formation of the films was confirmed by FTIR and Raman techniques which specified the interaction between biomolecules of SAlg and OkG...

Ornithine α-ketoglutarate (OKG), a nutritional compound, is an amino acid salt with anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects on humans and animals. Ulcerative colitis (UC), as an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), leads to chronic intestinal inflammatory dysfunction. This study evaluated the optimal dosage of OKG in healthy mice. Then, a mouse model of acute colitis was established using dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), and the preventive effect of OKG on DSS-induced colitis in mice was explored through analysis of serum inflammatory cytokines and fecal microbiota...

Adenovirus ocular infections are common ocular viral infections seen worldwide, for which there is no approved antiviral therapy available. Ranpirnase is a novel ribonuclease which preferentially degrades tRNA resulting in an inhibition of protein synthesis. The study goal was to determine the anti-adenoviral activity of topical formulations of ranpirnase (OKG-0301) on adenoviral replication in the Ad5/NZW rabbit ocular replication model. NZW rabbits were inoculated in both eyes with human adenovirus type 5 (HAdV5) after corneal scarification...

Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is one of the main causes of diarrhea in weaned piglets, and ornithine α-ketoglutarate (OKG) as a food supplement has been shown to improve intestinal immune status in animals and humans. Due to the defects like long gelling time, inferior mechanical properties and weak adhesion, in-situ forming hydrogels are still restricted in biomedical applications like viscera rupture and targeted therapy. To address these problems, a new kind of multi-crosslinked hydrogel (G-OKG-DA) consisting of gelatin, oxidized konjac glucomannan (OKG), and dopamine (DA) is proposed in this study. The resulting hybrid hydrogel is endowed with a short gelling time (about 3 min) and injectable capacity. According to the mechanical and adhesive tests, G-OKG-DA hydrogel shows a robust tensile strength of 23...

In this study, gelatin hydrogels with remarkable compressive properties and recoverability were prepared via Shiff's base chemical cross-linking between gelatin and oxidized konjac glucomannan (OKG). The process of OKG was first optimized by adjusting parameters, that is, oxidation temperature and time during processing. Various percentages of obtained OKG (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 wt % to gelatin) were introduced to make composite hydrogels (G-OKGs). These G-OKGs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, swelling ratio, and mechanical tests...

Simultaneous determination of zircon U-Pb age and titanium concentration for a single analysis spot gives both the crystallization age and temperature. In laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analysis, it is challenging to quantitatively analyse a low level of titanium concentration. Two femtosecond methods for imaging moderate liquid-gas sprays in the near-field region of spray nozzles - shadowgraphy and optical Kerr gated (OKG) ballistic imaging - were compared. Most spray structures can be captured using femtosecond shadowgraphy that can freeze the motion of the sprays. Femtosecond OKG ballistic imaging can distinguish finer structures and more-realistic liquid sheets by the filtering of multiple scattered photons. To compensate for the high-spatial-frequency components of the spray structures filtered by OKG ballistic imaging, differential OKG (DOKG) ballistic imaging was demonstrated...
