The Tumor-Node-Metastasis (TNM) classification on cancer staging, jointly developed by the American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), has been updated to its 8th edition with two contemporaneous versions published by the AJCC and UICC. While the goal of the AJCC and UICC is to have identical TNM staging systems, differences exist between these two publications including in the staging of urologic cancers. Among several new facets in the AJCC staging manual, a select few of greater import include an expanded section on imaging, presentation of levels of evidence for significant changes, and endorsement of risk assessment models that pass the AJCC quality criteria such as in prostate cancer...

BACKGROUND: The few studies that have examined the neural correlates of genital arousal have focused on men and are methodologically hard to compare. AIM: To investigate the neural correlates of peripheral physiologic sexual arousal using identical methodology for men and women. METHODS: 2 groups (20 men, 20 women) viewed movie clips (erotic, humor) while genital temperature was continuously measured using infrared thermal imaging. Participants also continuously evaluated changes in their subjective arousal and answered discrete questions about liking the movies and wanting sexual stimulation...

The current report describes a case of extragenital gestational choriocarcinoma in the kidney. A 36-year-old woman with a history of two deliveries of male babies visited the present hospital due to secondary amenorrhea following a positive urinary pregnancy test. Despite a high serum level of human chorionic gonadotropin, at 51,800 mIU/ml, diagnostic imaging methods and pathological examination did not detect any conceptus in the genital tract. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography detected 18F-FDG-positive tumors in the left kidney and right lung...

BACKGROUND: The tumor microenvironment plays an important role in tumorigenesis and the tumor-host relationship. An important part of the tumor microenvironment is inflammatory infiltration. Its evaluation in solid tumors has prognostic meaning and appears also to be predictive of outcome, which is particularly important for predicting responses to immune checkpoint inhibitors. However, the methodology used to assess inflammatory infiltration is problematic, because it has been standardized only for certain types of tumors...

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous venous malformation (VM) can be associated with internal vascular anomalies. Our objective was to investigate the frequency of internal vascular anomalies in patients with an isolated genital venous malformation to assess the utility of screening for internal findings. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed our Vascular Anomalies Center database for patients with a focal genital venous malformation presenting between 1999 and 2016. Abdominal and pelvic imaging reports were reviewed for internal vascular anomalies...

Crossed fused renal ectopia is a rare congenital anomaly, and is mostly detected incidentally. A 45-year-old man, during investigation for recurrent abdominal pain, was found to have an empty left renal fossa and right crossed renal ectopia with fusion on ultrasonography. In the present case, there were no abnormalities and/or alteration of the renal function. Abdominal tomography scan with contrast medium confirmed the diagnosis. Ectopic kidney is often associated with other abnormal situations such as agenesis, vascular malformation, incontinence, a palpable abdominal mass, urinary tract infection, high incidence of stone formation, and genital anomalies...

This study provides a comprehensive review of historical morphological nomenclature used for praying mantis (Mantodea) morphology, which includes citations, original use, and assignment of homology. All referenced structures across historical works correspond to a proposed standard term for use in all subsequent works pertaining to praying mantis morphology and systematics. The new standards are presented with a verbal description in a glossary as well as indicated on illustrations and images. In the vast majority of cases, originally used terms were adopted as the new standard...

Behcet's disease is an autoimmune disease most commonly seen in the Middle East. Although primarily known with painful oral and genital ulcers, it can lead to vasculitis. Therefore, several associated complications such as thrombotic syndromes, aneurysmal arterial disease may arise. In many cases, it might be difficult to make the diagnosis purely based on clinical grounds; however, imaging plays an important role for both diagnosis and assessment of the disease's complications. We provide a comprehensive review of the most notable imaging findings of Behcet's disease...

Sexual health research with transfeminine persons (individuals assigned male at birth who identify as female or feminine) has focused on HIV infection and sexual function following medical treatments. Yet, approximately half of transfeminine persons in Ontario, Canada, reported no partnered sex in the previous year. Therefore, we identified sociodemographic, social, and psychosocial factors associated with past-year sexual inactivity among transfeminine Ontarians. A multi-mode respondent-driven sampling survey of transgender people was conducted in 2009-2010 (N = 433), including 173 transfeminine individuals who had ever been sexually active...

This is an observational transversal cohort study in which we aim to analyze the Brazilian penis length and compare the penis size of the men self-declared as white (SDW) or black (SDB) skin color. Subjects were asked for self-declare according to their skin color, after that they have been invited to participate in a semi-structured interview so as to have their perception evaluated regarding their penis size and their self-esteem as well. Eventually, their penis length was measured with an anthropometric ruler...

INTRODUCTION: Vaginal reconstruction and vaginoplasty are indicated in vaginal agenesis, following pelvic tumor resection, trauma and for gender confirmation surgery. Different surgical options have been described when using these techniques. Herein, we present the clinical outcomes and sexual function evaluation using the pedicle transverse colon flap (TCF) for gender confirmation surgery in transgender women. METHODS: This is a retrospective chart review of all transgender women who underwent gender confirmation surgery using the pedicle TCF...

BACKGROUND: Shiny white streaks (SWS) are best visualized with polarized dermoscopy, and correlate with dermal fibroplasia histopathologically. SWS have been described at higher frequencies in melanomas than benign nevi. OBJECTIVE: We assessed the diagnostic value of different patterns of SWS and their histologic correlate in melanocytic lesions. METHODS: Polarized dermoscopic images of 1507 histopathologically diagnosed melanocytic neoplasms were analyzed for presence and pattern of SWS...

During Drosophila metamorphosis, nascent testis myotubes migrate from the prospective seminal vesicle of the genital disc onto pupal testes and then further to cover the testes with multinucleated smooth-like muscles. Here we show that DWnt2 is likely required for determination of testis-relevant myoblasts on the genital disc. Knock down of FGFR Heartless by RNAi and a dominant-negative version revealed multiple functions of Heartless, namely regulation of the amount of myoblasts on the genital disc, connection of seminal vesicles and testes, and migration of muscles along the testes...

Genital tuberculosis mimicking carcinoma ovary is a well-known dilemma as there is no definitive serological or imaging modality for diagnosing abdominopelvic tuberculosis. A 20-years-old unmarried girl presented with complex adnexal mass, mild ascites and CA 125 >1000. Her staging laparotomy and frozen section was planned. Laparotomy revealed miliary tuberculosis and frozen section confirmed the diagnosis of tuberculosis. Patient was started with anti-tuberculosis treatment and follow up showed resolution of cysts...

Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is the leading cause of genital herpes and increases the risk of HIV infection, but there is no effective vaccine. A replication-defective HSV-2 mutant virus, dl5-29, is effective in animal models and has been in a phase I trial. Previous studies have shown that dl5-29 gives higher antibody responses and better protection when inoculated intramuscularly (IM) as compared with subcutaneously (SC). However, the basis for this effect has not been defined. We confirmed that IM inoculation of dl5-29 is more immunogenic and provides better protection than SC inoculation...

Benign uterine fibroids are common female genital tract tumors and if symptomatic often require extensive surgery. When tumors are multiple and large or unusually located, the operative treatment may lead to significant morbidity and compromise quality of life. Recovery period after surgical treatment may be complicated by patient's medical condition and wound healing problems. Currently used other non-surgical treatment modalities usually provide only a temporal symptoms relief and may not be efficient in all affected women...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Gay and bisexual men may be at heightened risk for using anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS). Few studies, however, have examined AAS use among gay and bisexual men living in countries outside the United States. In addition, few studies have explored the potential associations of AAS use with body image concerns beyond muscularity, including height and genitals, or with eating disorder symptoms and quality of life. Thus, we examined the associations of AAS use, and of thoughts about using AAS, with body image, eating disorder symptoms, and quality of life among gay and bisexual men living in Australia and New Zealand...

BACKGROUND: Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-positive optic neuritis (ON) and myelitis are recognized as important differential diagnosis of aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibody-positive neuromyelitis optica (NMO)/NMO spectrum disorder (NMOSD). Similar to NMO/NMOSD associated with AQP4 antibodies, preceding infections have been reported in patients with MOG antibody-positive ON. This is the first report of bilateral ON following a herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection associated with a positive MOG antibody...
