There are many of methods of treating cancer. However, the concept of curing the cancer is beyond our current knowledge. Some patients who have the cancer may seek an alternative manner of curing their disease. Alternative medicines, such as spiritual and complementary therapy, are able to cure the cancer and, at the least, are safe. Research on the importance of spirituality in cancer care has mainly been performed in geographically heterogeneous populations. The results are limited to these specific religious-cultural contexts and enlightened by contributions from ethnicity and religion...

PURPOSE: The term 'keratoconus (KC) suspect' is used as a blanket term to refer to any deviation of virgin cornea shape toward KC features. We intend to subclassify such topographies in meaningful and informative designations. METHODS: Pentacam corneal topographies of 199 consecutive refractive surgery candidates (398 eyes) are examined. Features of steepness, inferior-superior asymmetry, focal steepening, thinning, and bounded anterior or posterior elevations are observed in the quad map...

A critical step in quasi-static ultrasound elastography is estimation of time-delay between two frames of radiofrequency (RF) data that are obtained while the tissue is undergoing deformation. This paper presents a novel technique for timedelay estimation (TDE) of all samples of RF data simultaneously, thereby exploiting all the information in RF data for TDE. A nonlinear cost function that incorporates similarity of RF data intensity and prior information of displacement continuity is formulated. Optimization of this function involves searching for TDE of all samples of the RF data, rendering the optimization intractable with conventional techniques given that the number of variables can be approximately one million...

PURPOSE: To determine the 1-year changes of mesopic higher order aberrations (HOAs) and contrast sensitivity (CS) after accelerated corneal cross linking (CXL) in progressive keratoconus. METHODS: In this prospective case series, 70 eyes of 62 keratoconic patients underwent accelerated CXL (18 mW/cm(2), 5 min). HOAs and CS were measured using the OPD Scan III and CSV-1000 CS test charts under mesopic conditions before and 6 and 12 months after CXL. RESULTS: At 1 year, logarithmic mesopic CS in spatial frequencies of 3, 6, 12, and 18 cycles per degree (CPD) had increased by 0...

PURPOSE: To compare the actual depth of the tunnel created with femtosecond laser for intracorneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation with the target depth in keratoconus patients. METHODS: In this mix design study, eligible keratoconus patients were identified through chart review. The inclusion criterion was a history of ICRS implantation with femtosecond laser more than 6 months prior to enrollment. Participants underwent anterior segment optical coherence tomography using Spectralis (Heidelberg Engineering GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany) for depth measurement defined as the distance from the anterior corneal surface to anterior rim of the ring...

The hyperimmunoglobulin E syndromes (HIESs) are very rare immunodeficiency syndromes with multisystem involvement, including immune system, skeleton, connective tissue, and dentition. HIES are characterized by the classic triad of high serum levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE), recurrent staphylococcal cold skin abscess, and recurrent pneumonia with pneumatocele formation. Most cases of HIES are sporadic although can be inherited as autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive traits. A fundamental immunologic defect in HIES is not clearly elucidated but abnormal neutrophil chemotaxis due to decreased production or secretion of interferon γ has main role in the immunopathogenesis of syndrome, also distorted Th1/Th2 cytokine profile toward a Th2 bias contributes to the impaired cellular immunity and a specific pattern of infection susceptibility as well as atopic-allergic constitution of syndrome...

PURPOSE: To determine the prevalence of different types of strabismus and heterophoria and their associated factors in underserved rural areas of Iran. METHODS: Two rural areas in the north and southwest of Iran were randomly sampled using multistage cluster sampling. Individuals aged over 1 year, totaling 3851, were invited to participate in the study. In addition to collecting demographic data, optometric examinations were performed for each participant. Unilateral and alternating cover tests were performed at far (6 m) and near (40 cm) to detect tropia and phoria, respectively, and the magnitude of the deviation was measured using alternating cover test and prism bar...
