INTRODUCTION: Papaver somniferum is the commercial source of morphine and codeine. The isolation of effective genes involved in the morphine biosynthesis of P. somniferum is very important in the production of specific metabolites achieved using metabolic engi-neering techniques. In this pathway, the key enzyme COR is involved in the conversion of codeinone to codeine and morphinone to morphine. METHODS: the gene encoding of this enzyme was isolated using primers designed on the base of gene sequence available on (NCBI) for P...

OBJECTIVES: In addition to several molecular methods and in particular 16S rDNA analysis, the application of a more discriminatory genetic marker, i.e., 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer gene sequence has had a great impact on identification and classification of mycobacteria. In the current study we aimed to apply this sequencing power to conclusive identification of some Iranian clinical strains of mycobacteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The test strains consisted of nineteen mycobacterial isolates which were initially identified by the use of conventional phenotypic techniques and molecular methods and subjected to further definitive identification using the 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer gene sequencing...

Brain death is defined as the permanent, irreversible and concurrent loss of all brain and brain stem functions. Brain death diagnosis is based on clinical criteria and it is not routine to use paraclinical studies. In some countries, electroencephalogram (EEG) is performed in all patients for the determination of brain death while there is some skepticism in relying on EEG as a confirmatory test for brain death diagnosis. In this study, we assessed the validity of EEG and its abnormalities in brain death diagnosis...

In the current study we aimed to execute a rather less complicated molecular tying method, i.e. the random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis to find the heterogeneity of Iranian strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The isolates comprised a total of 96 strains of M. tuberculosis collected from clinical specimens of patients in Isfahan and Tehran. The isolates were assigned to the species M. tuberculosis by the key conventional and molecular methods. They were then subjected to RAPD analysis by four arbitrary primers, namely, the primers 27F, 1525R, MS- GF and INS-2...
