Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons. LncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 14 (SNHG14) was found to promote neuron injury in PD. Here, we investigated the mechanisms of SNHG14 in PD process. In vivo or in vitro PD model was established by using 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced mice or 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP +)-stimulated SK-N-SH cells. The expression of genes and proteins was measured by qRT-PCR and Western blot...

Exposure to high-dose radiation causes life-threatening intestinal damage. Histopathology is the most accurate method of judging the extent of intestinal damage following death. However, it is difficult to predict the extent of intestinal damage. The present study investigated extracellular microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) in serum and feces using a radiation-induced intestinal injury mouse model. A peak of 25-200 nucleotide small RNAs was detected in mouse serum and feces by bioanalyzer, indicating the presence of miRNAs...

CONTEXT: Pileostegia tomentella Hand. Mazz (Saxifragaceae) total coumarins (TCPT) show antitumour activity in colorectal cancer (CRC) with unknown mechanism of action. Tumour angiogenesis mediated by exosomes-derived miRNA exhibits the vital regulation of endothelial cell function in metastasis of CRC. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of TCPT on exosomal miRNA expression and angiogenesis of CRC cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: HT-29-derived exosomes were generated from human CRC cells (HT-29) or either treated with TCPT (100 μg/mL) for 24 h, followed by identification by transmission electron microscope, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and Western blot...

BACKGROUND: MEN-1 is a rare autosomal dominant disease caused by mutations in MEN1 gene encoding the menin protein. This syndrome is characterized by the occurrence of parathyroid tumors, gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary adenomas, as well as other endocrine and non-endocrine tumors. If a patient with the MEN-1 phenotype carry no mutations in the MEN1 gene, the condition considers a phenocopy of syndrome (phMEN1). The possible cause of this changes could be changes in epigenetic regulation, particularly in microRNA expression that might affect menin signaling pathways...

Atherosclerosis may be caused or developed by an immune response and antioxidation imbalance. MicroRNA-375 (miR-375) or G-protein-coupled receptor 39 (GPR39) is involved in vascular endothelial cell injury, but their role in atherosclerosis is unknown. This experiment aimed to determine the action of the miR-375/GPR39 axis in atherosclerosis.Human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) were treated with 10 ng/mL of oxidised low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) for 24 hours to induce HAEC injury, which was treated by the miR-375 inhibitor, GPR39 inhibitor, or agonist...

INTRODUCTION: White Striping (WS) and Wooden Breast (WB) pectoral myopathies are relevant disorders for contemporary broiler production worldwide. Several studies aimed to elucidate the genetic components associated with the occurrence of these myopathies. However, epigenetic factors that trigger or differentiate these two conditions are still unclear. The aim of this study was to identify miRNAs differentially expressed (DE) between normal and WS and WB-affected broilers, and to verify the possible role of these miRNAs in metabolic pathways related to the manifestation of these pectoral myopathies in 28-day-old broilers...

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a pivotal role in important biological processes by regulating post-transcriptional gene expression and exhibit differential expression patterns during development, immune responses, and stress challenges. The diamondback moth causes significant economic damage to crops worldwide. Despite substantial advancements in understanding the molecular biology of this pest, our knowledge regarding the role of miRNAs in regulating key immunity-related genes remains limited. In this study, we leveraged whole transcriptome resequencing data from Plutella xylostella infected with Metarhizium anisopliae to identify specific miRNAs targeting the prophenoloxidase-activating protease1 (PAP1) gene and regulate phenoloxidase (PO) cascade during melanization...

The hospital mortality in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is about 6% and has not decreased in recent years. The leading cause of death of these patients is ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) cardiac injury. It is quite obvious that there is an urgent need to create new drugs for the treatment of STEMI based on knowledge about the pathogenesis of I/R cardiac injury, in particular, based on knowledge about the molecular mechanism of ferroptosis. In this study, it was demonstrated that ferroptosis is involved in the development of I/R cardiac injury, antitumor drug-induced cardiomyopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy, septic cardiomyopathy, and inflammation...

Differentiation of amniotic fluid stem cells (AFSCs) into multiple lineages is controlled by epigenetic modifications, which include DNA methylation, modifications of histones, and the activity of small noncoding RNAs. The present study investigates the role of miRNAs in the differentiation of AFSCs and addresses how their unique signatures contribute to lineage-specific differentiation. The miRNA profile was assessed in AFSCs after 4 weeks of endothelial and muscular differentiation. Our results showed decreased expression of five miRNAs (miR-18a-5p, miR-125b-5p, miR-137, miR-21-5p, and let-7a) and increased expression of twelve miRNAs (miR-134-5p, miR-103a-3p, let-7i-5p, miR-214-3p, let-7c-5p, miR-129-5p, miR-210-3p, let-7d-5p, miR-375, miR-181-5p, miR-125a-5p, and hsa-let-7e-5p) in endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) compared with undifferentiated AFSCs...
