Folicular lymphoma

An increasing use of immunomodulatory drugs has led to a corresponding increase in treatment-related pathologies such as inflammatory bowel disease. Here, we present a case of ulcerative colitis due to Obinutuzumab, an antiCD20 monoclonal approved for the treatment of Non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

Metastatic lesions involving the breast are exceptional; hematolymphoid neoplasias rank second as per their frequency in case series reported in the literature with a prevalence of 0.04% to 1.6% when considering all malignant breast tumors and reaching an annual incidence of 0.07%, mainly accounted for by secondary lymphomas. Eighty percent of them are diffuse, large B cells lymphomas (DLBCL), followed by follicular lymphoma and marginal zone lymphoma. Hashimoto's disease associated with thyroid cancer is not common. From January 1976 to December 1994, a total of 95 patients with Hashimoto's disease were treated surgically. Six (5 Papillary 1 folicular) of 95 patients had thyroid cancer which was concomitantly revealed pathologically. They were all women with mean age of 30.3 years. The size of tumor was 0.3-2.0 cm. Follow-up for 1-17 years showed that they were all alive and healthy. In a complex of 33 multiparametrally verified lymphomas of centrocytic and centroblastic types, the interrelationship of the tumor cells was studied. The ratio between the centrocytes and the centroblasts was independent in many aspects being mostly topical. The centrocytoma regularly showed a tendency to produce a folicular type of organization which manifested a definite polarity even in the cytologically pure variants. We present markedly decreased radioactivity in the right on a 99mTc-pertechnetate thyroid image in a patient with secondary lymphoma of the thyroid. At autopsy, the right lobe of the thyroid was replaced by lymphoma tissue. Markedly decreased radioactivity on the images may be explained by lymphoma cell infiltration or replacement of thyroid tissue with a resultant attenuation effect as well as interference of the trapping mechanism of the thyroid folicular cell. While cold areas in a radionuclide scintigram may present difficulties in interpretation, a high index of secondary lymphoma suspicion should be made by a combination of the scintigraphic findings and history of malignant lymphoma...
