RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
Yunes Panahi, Nahid Khalili, Mahboobeh Sadat Hosseini, Mohammad Abbasinazari, Amirhossein Sahebkar
BACKGROUND: Dyslipidemia is an established feature of metabolic syndrome (MS) that is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Curcuminoids are natural products with anti-atherosclerotic and lipid-modifying effects but their efficacy in patients with MS has not yet been tested. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of bioavailability-enhanced curcuminoids, as adjunctive to standard of care, on serum lipid concentrations in patients with MS...

RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
C Russell Hendrix, Terry J Housh, Michelle Mielke, Jorge M Zuniga, Clayton L Camic, Glen O Johnson, Richard J Schmidt, Dona J Housh
The purpose of the present study was to examine the acute effects of a caffeine-containing supplement (SUPP) on 1 repetition maximum (1RM) bench press and leg extension strength, as well as time to exhaustion (TTE), during cycle ergometry at a power output that corresponded to 80% of VO2peak. The study used a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover design. Twenty-one untrained men (mean +/- SD age = 23.0 +/- 2.6 yr) were randomly assigned to take either the SUPP or placebo (PLAC) first. The SUPP contained 400 mg of caffeine, 66...

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the present study was to examine the acute effects of a thermogenic nutritional supplement containing caffeine, capsaicin, bioperine, and niacin on muscular strength and endurance performance. METHODS: Twenty recreationally-active men (mean +/- SD age = 21.5 +/- 1.4 years; stature = 178.2 +/- 6.3 cm; mass = 76.5 +/- 9.9 kg; VO2 PEAK = 3.05 +/- 0.59 L/min-1) volunteered to participate in this randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, cross-over study...
