CONTEXT: The present study was carried out to formulate thymoquinone proniosomal formulation (TQP) and evaluate their efficacy in methotrexate (Mtx) induced hepatotoxicity in rats. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to explore a new therapeutic approach focusing on hepatoprotective activity using thymoquinone proniosomal formulation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: TQP was formulated using span60, cholesterol and phospholipid by film hydration technique...

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a selective and minimally invasive therapeutic approach, involving the combination of a light-sensitive compound, called a photosensitizer (PS), visible light and molecular oxygen. The interaction of these per se harmless agents results in the production of reactive species. This triggers a series of cellular events that culminate in the selective destruction of cancer cells, inside which the photosensitizer preferentially accumulates. The search for ideal PDT photosensitizers has been a very active field of research, with a special focus on porphyrins and porphyrin-related macrocycle molecules...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Fracture of feldspathic porcelain laminate veneers represents a significant mode of clinical failure. Therefore, ceramic materials that withstand a higher load to fracture, especially for patients with parafunctional habits, are needed. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation of material (zirconia, TZP, glass-ceramic, IEC, and feldspathic porcelain, FP) design (incisal overlapped preparation, IOP, and three-quarter preparation, TQP), and fracture mode to failure load for veneers supported by composite resin abutments...

Information on subsite specificity of the transglutaminase (TG) is important to design any specific peptides for TG's applications and inhibitor studies. Here, mRNA display was introduced for identifying the subsite specificity of TG from Streptomyces mobaraensis (STG). Functionally active peptides expressed from mRNA display library were differentially conjugated to hexa lysine (K₆-beads according to their relative activities for STG. The active peptide substrates for STG were enriched through six rounds of screening, and its corresponding cDNA/mRNA sequences were identified by DNA sequencing...

The transport of glucose across cell membranes is mediated by a family of facilitative glucose transporters (GLUTs). The class III glucose transporters GLUT8 and GLUT12 both contain a similar [DE]XXXL[LI] dileucine sorting signal in their amino terminus. This type of dileucine motif facilitates protein trafficking to various organelles or to the plasma membrane via interactions with adaptor protein (AP) complexes. The [DE]XXXL[LI] motif in GLUT8 is thought to direct it to late endosomal/lysosomal compartments via its interactions with AP1 and AP2...

In this work zinc azaphthalocyanines (AzaPcs) from the group of tetrapyrazinoporphyrazines and zinc azanaphthalocyanines from the group of tetra[6,7]quinoxalinoporphyrazines (TQP) with eight diethylaminoethylsulfanyl substituents were synthesized. Tertiary amines were later quaternized with ethyl iodide to obtain water-soluble photosensitizers (PSs). Quaternized compounds showed high singlet oxygen quantum yields as determined in DMF by monitoring decomposition of 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran. In water medium, quaternized AzaPc derivatives appeared in monomeric form in a wide range of concentrations while quaternized TQP derivatives showed aggregation at higher concentrations (over 1 microM)...

OBJECTIVE: To examine women's reasons for seeking care at The Quito Project (TQP), a student-led organization that aims to improve the health, education, and well-being of a semi-urban community in Quito, Ecuador, and to explore the need for additional preventative interventions. METHODS: An oral survey was administered to 86 adult patients in 2008. We also completed a chart review to evaluate patient demographics and medical conditions. RESULTS: Sixty-three (73...

Based on ticlopidine active as an ADP receptor antagonist for inhibiting platelet aggregation in clinical test, and upon finding (+/-)-1,2-substituted-7-sulfonylamide/amide-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (11-31) inhibited of platelet aggregation, a series of (+/-)-1-o-chlorophenyl-2-substituted-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives was designed and synthesized. Four analogs proved to be potential antiplatelet aggregation agents, and compound 9 (TQP-3, applying for patent) which inhibits ADP-induced human platelet aggregation with IC50 values of approximately 0...

The University of Michigan Medical Center (UMCC) has received national recognition for its leadership role in total quality management (TQM). In 1990, UMMC was awarded the third annual Commitment to Quality Award presented by The Healthcare Forum (San Francisco) and Witt Associates, Inc. (Chicago). This award is the only national award for quality given to health care organizations in the United States. This article discusses the evolution of the total quality process (TQP) at a large academic teaching center and the implementation of that process into Medical Information Services (MIS) daily work environment...
