An Ipomoea batatas extract obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis with alpha amylase was characterized to be used as nutrient basis. Among its quality indicators, it had a content of over 50% whole carbohydrates with respect to the nominal mass, estimated by phenol-sulphur method. The same content of aminonitrogen detected and quantified by potentiometric titration using formaldehyde and of total nitrogen (0,23%) by Kjeldahl method were detected. The content of necessary mineral elements for microbial culture was determined by the atom absorption method...

Women who had symptomatic acute vulvovaginal candidiasis are include in this study. Micological investigation is realized by microscopy, culture method (CHROM agar, BD, USA) and ID 32 C (Fungus), Mini API Bio Merieux, France. Most frequent isolates are Candida albicans (82.67%), followed by C. glabrata (7.8%) and C. parapsilosis (5.51%). We compare two groups of patients: received itraconazole (200 mg bd oral dose for 1 day) and fluconazole (150 mg single oral dose). The rate of mycological cure is 93.8% in the itraconazole group and 79...

A 56-year-old-man who had refractory anemia with an excess of blasts underwent an allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) from his brother after preparation with melphalan and fludarabin. He received GvHD (graft-vs.-host disease) prophylaxis with cyclosporine from day -1 at a daily dose of 5 mg/kg of body weight. The daily dosage was tapered gradually from day +20. On post-PBSCT day 68 he developed acute cutaneous GvHD grade 3 and acute gastrointestinal GvHD grade 2-3, which was resolved with a daily dose of 1 mg/kg of body weight of prednisone...

BACKGROUND: Investigative sinus endoscopy for purely diagnostic purposes has become an important therapeutic tool for disorders of the paranasal system thanks to the enormous technological developments of the last twenty years. METHODS: In a retrospective study, sinus endoscopies carried out between 1990 and 1994 on 57 patients, mean age 43 years, were subjected to critical re-evaluation, with the aim of evaluating the efficacy of endoscopic treatment. In the first phase, the documentation available for each patient was examined; it included clinical data, preoperative traditional and CT radiographs, rhinoscopic and sinus endoscopic findings...
