Mangine, GT, Huet, K, Williamson, C, Bechke, E, Serafini, P, Bender, D, Hudy, J, and Townsend, J. A resisted sprint improves rate of force development during a 20-m sprint in athletes. J Strength Cond Res 32(6): 1531-1537, 2018-This study examined the effect of a resisted sprint on 20-m sprinting kinetics. After a standardized warm-up, 23 (male = 10, female = 13) Division I basketball players completed 3 maximal 20-m sprint trials while tethered to a robotic resistance device. The first sprint (S1) used the minimal, necessary resistance (1 kg) to detect peak (PK) and average (AVG) sprinting power (P), velocity (V), and force (F); peak rate of force production (RFD) was also calculated...

Coalbed natural gas (CBNG) is an important unconventional natural gas resource with large reserves in China and receives much attention these years. The CBNG production is accomplished by extracting large volumes of produced water from the aquifer. The CBNG-produced water is commonly managed by discharging into nearby disposal ponds in the Southern Qinshui Basin (SQB), which provides an opportunity for water source for nearby irrigation, livestock, wildlife, and human drinking water. However, utilization of this nontraditional water source in the SQB is hindered by limited knowledge of water quality, practically oxidation/reduction potential (OPR), electrical conductivity (EC), sodium adsorption ration (SAR), and trace element chemistry data...

Arteriovenous hemodialysis graft (AVG) stenosis results in thrombosis and AVG failure, and develops chiefly as a consequence of localized neointimal hyperplasia (NH) formation in the vein-graft anastomosis region. The vein region just downstream of the vein-graft anastomosis (herein termed proximal vein region) is relatively resistant to NH. Prevention of AVG stenosis has been ineffective due in part to our limited understanding of the molecular processes involved in NH formation. We hypothesized that the gene expression profiles of the NH-prone and NH-resistant regions will be different from each other after graft placement, and analysis of their genomic profiles may yield therapeutic targets to prevent AVG stenosis...

BACKGROUND: Antiplatelet therapy (APT) is often used on anecdotal grounds to improve vascular access patency. The aim of this study was to assess the role of APT in hemodialysis (HD) patients undergoing arteriovenous fistula (AVF) or graft (AVG) placement. METHODS: All patients in a large HD vascular qualitative initiative database (2011-2017) were included and divided into no antiplatelet therapy (no-APT) vs. any APT [aspirin (ASA) or P2Y12 inhibitors (PI)]. Multivariate [logistic (MLR) and Cox (MCR) regression] analyses were used as appropriate...

Recent research has elucidated circulating levels of almost all factor H-related (FHR) proteins. Some of these proteins are hypothesized to act as antagonists of the important complement regulator factor H (FH), fine-tuning complement regulation on human surfaces. For the CFHR4 splice variants FHR-4A and FHR-4B, the individual circulating levels are unknown, with only total levels being described. Specific reagents for FHR-4A or FHR-4B are lacking due to the fact that the unique domains in FHR-4A show high sequence similarity with FHR-4B, making it challenging to distinguish them...

The fistula first initiative has rekindled interest in transposition of basilic vein (TBV) in preference to arteriovenous grafts (AVG). TBV is considered to have advantages over AVG. The aim of this study was to analyze the outcome of TBVs in our center comparing them to a historically matched group of patients who had AVG. Thirty-two patients who underwent TBV as a vascular access procedure in Derriford Hospital between January 2010 and October 2014 were included in the study. The historical control group comprised 31 patients who had AVG inserted in the upper arm between January 1999 and December 2010...

PURPOSE: BRAF and MEK inhibitors (BRAF/MEKi) favor melanoma-infiltrating lymphocytes, providing the rationale for current combinatorial trials with anti-PD1 antibody. A portion of melanoma cells may express PD1, and anti-PD1 antibody could have a direct anti-tumor effect. Here, we explore if BRAF/MEKi modulate rates of PD1+ melanoma cells, supporting an additional - lymphocyte-independent - basis for their therapeutic combination with anti-PD1 antibody. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: With data mining and flow cytometry, we assessed PD1, PDL1/2 expression on melanoma cell lines (CCLE, N=61; validation cell lines, N=7) and melanoma tumors (TCGA, N=214)...
