As compared to solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors (PDs), far-UVC PDs not only show some irreplaceable advantages but also are more challenging to be developed. To solve this challenge, we report herein a soft template-assisted solvothermal route to synthesize ultrathin γ-Ga2 O3 quantum wires (UQWs) with diameters down to 1-2 nm. These UQWs all exhibit a cluster-like absorption feature with a strong peak located between 190 and 230 nm and an edge below 250 nm, allowing highly selective absorption to far-UVC light...

BACKGROUND: Palliative care (PC) is an essential component of high-quality cardiovascular disease (CVD) care. However, little is known about the current state of PC education in CVD training including attitudes towards integration in training and implementation among program leadership. METHODS: We developed a nationwide, cross-sectional survey querying educational approaches, perspectives, and barriers to PC education in general CVD fellowship training. The survey was distributed to 392 members of the American College of Cardiology Program Director (PD) listserv representing 290 general CVD fellowships between 1/2023 and 4/2023...

The existence of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) has been a global public environment and health issue. Due to the different cell structures, gram-positive/negative ARB exhibit various inactivation mechanisms in water disinfection. In this study, a gram-negative ARB Escherichia coli DH5α (E. coli DH5α) was used as a horizontal gene transfer (HGT) donor, while a gram-positive ARB Bacillus as a recipient. To develop an efficient and engineering applicable method in water disinfection, ARB and ARGs removal efficiency of Fe(VI) coupled peroxydisulfate (PDS) or peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was compared, wherein hydroxylamine (HA) was added as a reducing agent...

Natural organic matter (NOM) is a major sink of radicals in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and understanding the transformation of NOM is important in water treatment. By using Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) in conjunction with machine learning, we comprehensively investigated the reactivity and transformation of NOM, and the formation of organosulfates during the UV/peroxydisulfate (PDS) process. After 60 min UV/PDS treatment, the CHO formula number and dissolved organic carbon concentration significantly decreased by 83...

Data from the Internet of Things (IoT) enables the design of new business models and services that improve user experience and satisfaction. These data serve as important information sources for many domains, including disaster management, biosurveillance, smart cities, and smart health, among others. However, this scenario involves the collection of personal data, raising new challenges related to data privacy protection. Therefore, we aim to provide state-of-the-art information regarding privacy issues in the context of IoT, with a particular focus on findings that utilize the Personal Data Store (PDS) as a viable solution for these concerns...

Sulfur-doped activated carbon has proved to be a promising metal-free catalyst for persulfate (PDS) catalytic activation for the oxidation of aqueous refractory organics. Herein, sulfur-doped porous carbon (ACS) catalysts with different pore structures and doped-S contents were prepared via a template method using d(+)-glucose as the carbon source, sulfur as the sulfur source, and nano-MgO with different particle sizes as templates. Characterization results showed that the particle size of MgO significantly affects the pore structure and doped-S content of ACSs catalysts: a sample synthesized with 20 nm MgO as template (ACS-20) presented the highest content of doped-S and a mesoporous structure, which endowed it with superior adsorption and catalytic performance toward tetracycline (TC) removal...

We report a previously unrecognized but efficient reductive degradation pathway in peroxydisulfate (PDS)-driven soil remediation. With supplements of naturally occurring low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) in anaerobic biochar-activated PDS systems, degradation rates of 12 γ-hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCH)-spiked soils boosted from 40% without LMWOAs to a maximum of 99% with 1 mM malic acid. Structural analysis revealed that an increase in α-hydroxyl groups and a diminution in p K a1 values of LMWOAs facilitated the formation of reductive carboxyl anion radicals (COO•- ) via electrophilic attack by SO4 •- /• OH...

In the last decades, growing caseness for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has been observed, owing to the diagnostic accretion of low-impairment forms, over and above other possible causes. Unrecognized ASD is likely to be mislabeled as a psychotic disorder (PD), as people in the spectrum may show 'pseudopsychotic' symptoms, resembling both negative and positive symptoms. On the other hand, PDs are likely to be overlooked when they arise in people with ASD, due to the 'diagnostic overshadowing' of new-onset conditions by lifelong core autistic symptoms...
