Organic molecules that undergo supercooling can provide the basis for novel stimuli-responsive materials, but the number of such compounds is limited. Results in this paper show that the stable organic radical 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) can form a stable supercooled liquid (SCL). Upon melting and cooling back to room temperature, the TEMPO SCL can persist for months, even after mild physical agitation. Its high vapor pressure can enable crystal growth at remote locations within the sample container over the course of days...

The synthesis, characterization and reactivities of iminoborane radicals were reported. Both X-ray analysis and density functional theory calculations revealed that the unpaired electron delocalizes over the N(1)-C(1)-B(1)-N(2) moiety. Radical trap reactions showed that this radical species acts as a boron radical. These reactions also serve as methods for the synthesis of Lewis base-stabilized oxyl-terminated iminoboranes.

The issues of dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution reaction, and zinc anode corrosion have significantly hindered the widespread implementation of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Herein, trace amounts of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) additive is introduced into AZIBs to protect the zinc metal anode. Trace amounts of the TEMPO additive with nitroxyl radical can provide fast Zn2+ transport and anode protection ability by forming an adsorbed molecular layer via Zn-O bond. This interface not only provides strong interfacial compatibility and promotes dynamic transport of Zn2+ , but also induces deposition of Zn2+ along Zn (002) plane...

In particular, the content of polysaccharides in daylily is abundant and has been widely used as a functional component in food, cosmetics, medicine, and other industries. However, studies on the structure-effective relationship of daylily flower polysaccharides are still lacking. In view of this, daylily flower polysaccharides were isolated and purified, and their physical and chemical properties, structure, antioxidant activity, and adhesion-promoting effect on probiotics were evaluated...

Biological samples are often frozen and stored for years and/or thawed multiple times, thus assessing their stability on long-term storage and repeated freeze-thaw cycles is crucial. The design of N-oxyl hydrogen atom transfer catalysts has proven challenging to date. Previous efforts have focused on the functionalization of the archetype phthalimide-N-oxyl. Driven in part by the limited options for modification of this structure, this strategy has provided only modest improvement in reactivity and/or solubility. Our previous mechanistic efforts have suggested that while the electron-withdrawing carbonyls of the phthalimide are necessary to maximize the O-H bond dissociation enthalpy of the HAT product hydroxylamine and thus overall reaction thermodynamics, they can undergo nucleophilic substitution leading to catalyst decomposition...

In this work, spatially defined radical-containing polymers are synthesized by using acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization of α,ω-dienes bearing a central activated ester. Postpolymerization functionalization with 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (4-amino-TEMPO) introduces TEMPO radical groups onto the polymer backbone through amide linkages to yield spatially defined polymers with radical units every 9, 11, 15, and 21 carbons...
