Objective: An experiment was conducted to evaluate dietary supplemental trace mineral source and deletion on mineral content in tissues. Methods: Weanling crossbred pigs [n = 144; 72 barrows and 72 gilts; body weight (BW) = 7.4 ± 1.05 kg] were used. A basal diet was prepared, and trace mineral premix containing either inorganic (ITM) or organic (OTM) trace minerals (Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) was added to the basal diet. Pigs were blocked by sex and BW and randomly allotted to 24 pens for a total of 6 pigs per pen, and fed a diet containing either ITM or OTM supplemented at the 1998 NRC requirement estimates for each of 5 BW phases (Phase I to V) from 7 to 120 kg...

Objective: The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary standard ileal digestible (SID) valine:lysine ratios on performance, intestinal morphology, amino acids of liver and muscle, plasma indices and mRNA expression of branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) metabolism enzymes. Methods: A total of 144 crossbred pigs (Duroc × Landrace × Large White) weaned at 28 ± 4 days of age (8.79 ± 0.02 kg body weight) were randomly allotted to 1 of 4 diets formulated to provide SID valine: lysine ratios of 50, 60, 70 or 80%...

Objective: DNA methylation plays a major role in regulating the expression of genes related to traits of economic interest (e.g., weight gain) in livestock animals. This study characterized and investigated the functional inferences of genome-wide DNA methylome in the loin (longissimus dorsi) muscle (LDM) of swine. Methods: A total of 8.99 Gb methylated DNA immunoprecipitation sequence data were obtained from LDM samples of eight Duroc pigs (four pairs of littermates)...

BACKGROUND: Isotopically labeled relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) were applied together with liquid chromatogram-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technique to screen and differentiate normal tissues and differential proteins of placenta tissue in the pre-eclampsia group, and to seek for a pre-eclampsia biomarker. METHODS: Thirty patients with severe pre-eclampsia (pre-eclampsia group) and 30 patients with normal full-term pregnancy (control group), who were admitted by the Obstetrical Department of The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from December 2014 to June 2015, were collected for this study...

Performing rhinoplasty using filler injections, which improve facial wrinkles or soft tissues, is relatively inexpensive. However, intravascular filler injections can cause severe complications, such as skin necrosis and visual loss. We describe a case of blepharoptosis and skin necrosis caused by augmentation rhinoplasty and we discuss the patient's clinical progress. We describe the case of a 25-year-old female patient who experienced severe pain, blepharoptosis, and decreased visual acuity immediately after receiving a filler injection...

BACKGROUND: Simulation training is becoming an increasingly important component of skills acquisition in surgical specialties, including Plastic Surgery. Non-living simulation models have an established place in Plastic Surgical microsurgery training, and support the principles of replacement, reduction and refinement of animal use. A more sophisticated version of the basic chicken thigh microsurgery model has been developed to include dissection of a type 1-muscle flap and is described and validated here...

Periauricular paresthesia may afflict patients for a significant amount of time after facelift surgery. When performing face and neck lift surgery, temple and posterior auricular flap dissection is undertaken directly over the auriculotemporal, great auricular, and lesser occipital nerve territory, leading to potential damage to the nerve. The auriculotemporal nerve remains under the thin outer superficial fascia just below the subfollicular level in the prehelical area. To prevent damage to the auriculotemporal nerve and to protect the temporal hair follicle, the dissection plane should be kept just above the thin fascia covering the auriculotemporal nerve...

Evaluation of the vaginal bleeding of postmenopausal women is crucial to diagnose endometrial lesions. Endometrial thickness measured by transvaginal ultrasonography provides an important reference for diagnosis. Currently, no specific cut-off value of endometrial thickness has been identified to predict the malignant risk for endometrial thickening and postmenopausal women without any symptoms. Most of resected endometrial specimens from postmenopausal women without any symptoms are diagnosed as benign or normal tissues...

Divergence insufficiency is acquired esotropia at distance fixation with symptomatic uncrossed diplopia but fusion at near. It can be divided into two forms: primary isolated form and secondary form associated with neurologic abnormalities, also called divergence palsy. The clinical features of divergence insufficiency include small esotropia only at distance but orthotropia or small esophoria at near, comitant deviation at lateral gaze, reduced divergence fusion, full abduction and normal saccadic velocities in abduction...

Methods: Using random number table, eighteen guinea pigs were divided into three groups (control group/AR group/HRS group, n=6 of each group). AR guinea pig model was built with ovalbumin and aluminum. The guinea pigs were injected with hydrogen-rich saline (HRS group) for ten days after sensitation. BACKGROUND: Ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) is mostly resistant to standard chemotherapy that results in poor patient survival. To understand the genetic background of these tumours, we performed whole-genome sequencing of OCCC tumours. METHODS: Tumour tissue samples and matched blood samples were obtained from 55 Japanese women diagnosed with OCCC. Whole-genome sequencing was performed using the Illumina HiSeq platform according to standard protocols. RESULTS: Alterations to the switch/sucrose non-fermentable (SWI/SNF) subunit, the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signalling pathway, and the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK)/Ras signalling pathway were found in 51%, 42%, and 29% of OCCC tumours, respectively...

BACKGROUND: Predictive biomarkers or signature(s) for oesophageal cancer (OC) patients undergoing preoperative therapy could help administration of effective therapy, avoidance of ineffective ones, and establishment new strategies. Since the hedgehog pathway is often upregulated in OC, we examined its transcriptional factor, Gli-1, which confers therapy resistance, we wanted to assess Gli-1 as a predictive biomarker for chemoradiation response and validate it. METHODS: Untreated OC tissues from patients who underwent chemoradiation and surgery were assessed for nuclear Gli-1 by immunohistochemistry and labelling indices (LIs) were correlated with pathologic complete response (pathCR) or <pathCR (resistance) and validated in a unique cohort...
