The objective of the present study was to elucidate the specific features of the clinical course of acute otitis media as well as the peculiarities of the vestibular function and the microbial paysage associated with this pathological condition under the present-day conditions. The study included 135 patients presenting with acute otitis media (AOM) at different stages of the disease. The discharge obtained from the tympanic cavity of all the patients was examined with the use of polymerase chain reaction in real time, audiological and vestibulogical methods...

Introduction: As in other disciplines, the burgeoning knowledge in ENT medicine long ago surpassed our ability to adequately absorb it and maintain a proper overview. This can give rise to actual or assumed evidence gaps that can impede the progress of the discipline and evidence-based treatment of patients. Clinics and medical practices also hold to traditional doctrines that shape day-to-day medicine, without these schools being challenged based on evidence. Methods: Between February and June 2015, 160 ENT clinics, including 34 university hospitals, and 2,670 ENT practices took part in a two-arm online survey on existing or perceived evidentiary gaps in ENT medicine using a previously developed questionnaire...

REVIEW
D V Lychakov
The review contains data on functional shifts in fishes, amphibians and birds caused by changes in the otolith system operation after stay under weightlessness conditions. These data are of theoretical and practical significance and are important to resolve some fundamental problems of vestibulogy. The analysis of the results of space experiments has shown that weightlessness conditions do not exert a substantial impact on formation and functional state of the otolith system in embryonic fishes, amphibians and birds developed during space flight...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
V T Pal'chun, N L Kunel'skaia, A P Petlinov
A vestibulogic examination was made in 66 patients with otitis media purulenta chronica complicated with labyrinthitis. The patients were divided into two groups: group 1 received surgical treatment in an acute period of labyrinthitis, group 2 was treated conservatively with delayed operation. The patients were examined at admission, 2 weeks, 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the treatment. It was found that compensation of the vestibular function in group 1 took place 6 months after temporal bone surgery, in group 2-9 months after delayed operation, i...
