PURPOSE: Work is important for identity formation, social status, and economic independency. Although some evidence within the field of work and cancer survivorship exists, no study has so far investigated employment status across all cancer diagnoses. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of all cancer diagnoses on employment status. METHODS: Danish cancer patients aged 20-60 years, diagnosed between 2000 and 2015, were identified through Danish registers and matched 1:5 with cancer-free controls...

The most widely accepted surgical management of a traumatized interphalangeal joint of the thumb is arthrodesis. However, in certain situations, specific functional and vocational demands require preserved movement at this joint. In the present case report, we describe harvesting the second toe proximal phalanx head as an osteochondral bone graft to recontour the proximal aspect of the thumb interphalangeal joint. The post-operative hand therapy regimen is described resulting in a pain-free functional range of motion...

By analysing the factors influencing secondary vocational students' learning burnout in the context of social media, this study unearthed the underlying causes of learning burnout. It also determined the correlation paths among the factors influencing learning burnout, providing references for educational and pedagogical improvement. This contributes to preventing secondary vocational students' learning burnout and enhancing learning efficiency in secondary vocational schools. Combined with previous research results and a theoretical basis, this study identifies 10 influencing factors employing the Delphi method, and uses Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM) and Matrice d' Impacts Croisés Multiplication Appliqués à un Classement (MICMAC) to elucidate the relationship between influencing factors of learning burnout among secondary vocational students in the context of social media...

Vocational identification means being identified with an organization and with one's career. Both are key objectives of vocational education and training (VET) programs and advantageous for employees and employers. For employees, vocational identification is often associated with positive work-related emotions and job satisfaction; for employers, workers' identification with the organization and the career enhances their performance and reduces turnover. Thus, investment in employees' professional development that has the potential to support vocational identification is advantageous for all involved...

OBJECTIVE: Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) is often characterized by severe dysphonia and has a significant impact on a patient's communication in daily and vocational situations. Having a better understanding of how UVFP influences quality of life and patient experiences can help improve patient-centered care in this population. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of patients with UVFP. METHODS: Twenty-five adults with UVFP (age range: 39-84years) participated in the study...

METHODS: We followed a pre-determined scoping review protocol to search MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, CCRCT and CDSR databases between 2000 to December 2023...

Objectives: We investigated factors associated with job retention after developing a visual impairment in late middle adulthood. Methods: Using longitudinal survey data from the Health and Retirement Study, we identified respondents who first reported poor eyesight or legal blindness at age 44-64 years in Waves 3-14 and who were employed in the previous wave. We conducted a multiple logistic regression analysis with job retention as the dependent variable and health and socioeconomic characteristics as independent variables...

BACKGROUND: The high rates of psychiatric re-hospitalizations (also termed "revolving door") presents a "wicked problem" which requires a systematic and holistic approach to its resolution. Israel's mental-health rehabilitation law provides a comprehensive set of services intended to support the ability of persons with severe mental illness to rely on community rather than in-patient facilities for their ongoing care needs. Guided by the Health Behavior Model, we examined the relationship between psychiatric re-hospitalizations and the three Health Behavior Model factors (predisposing factor: socio-demographic characteristics and health beliefs; enabling factor: personal and social/vocational relationships facilitated by rehabilitation interventions and services; and need factor: outcomes including symptoms, and mental health and functional status) among persons with severe mental illness receiving rehabilitation services...

PURPOSE: Roughly 3 million adult Americans have a visual impairment or blindness, and over 4 million adults aged 40 and older. Despite data demonstrating an elevated prevalence of mental health symptoms in people with BVI, this population remains largely untreated. Given that people with BVI often interface with multiple systems of rehabilitative care that are designed to improve quality of life, the relatively low rates of initiation of mental health care services are particularly alarming...

BACKGROUND: Two million people in the UK are living with or beyond cancer and a third of them report poor quality of life (QoL) due to problems such as fatigue, fear of cancer recurrence, and concerns about returning to work. We aimed to develop and evaluate an intervention based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), suited to address the concerns of cancer survivors and in improving their QoL. We also recognise the importance of exercise and vocational activity on QoL and therefore will integrate options for physical activity and return to work/vocational support, thus ACT Plus (+)...

John Stuart Mill and Harriet Taylor-Mill, Max and Marianne Weber, and Bertrand and Dora Russell had a definite vocation: they wanted to change the world. Lawrence Kohlberg (1927-1987) was a moral development specialist and moral teacher. Throughout Kohlberg's life, there was a reciprocal influence between Kohlberg's development and the sociocultural influences of his time, guiding his life story. This psychobiography used a longitudinal, single-case research design from the qualitative paradigm, utilising the descriptive-interpretive approach to explore the influences which shaped major life events in Kohlberg's life...

BACKGROUND: Ketamine is the prototypal rapid-acting antidepressant (RAAD) for TRD with approved indication for esketamine-nasal spray (ESK-NS). Distinctly, arketamine (R-KET) demonstrates enhanced antidepressant effects and neuroplasticity changes compared to esketamine, with fewer dissociative side effects and abuse potential. This study focuses on R-ketamine's therapeutic implications, safety, and tolerability in TRD treatment. METHODS: We report on a year-long follow-up of three TRD patients post-single IV R-KET administration...
