About 75% of bladder cancers are detected as non-muscle invasive. High-risk patients have high progression risk. Although the standard is transurethral resection of bladder tumor plus full dose intravesical BCG for one to 3 years, due to the high risk of progression, radical cystectomy may be considered in specific cases. Although radical cystectomy is still the best approach for high-grade NMIBC from an oncological perspective, its high morbidity and impact on quality of life motivate studies of new strategies that may reduce the need for cystectomy...

Bladder cancer encapsulates a wide spectrum of disease severities, with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) representing an entirely different entity from muscle-invasive disease. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is one of the most successful intravesical treatment methods for patients diagnosed. However, a considerable proportion of patients fail to respond to BCG treatment. Given the propensity for recurrence in patients with high-risk bladder cancer, these patients present with surgical dilemmas...

INTRODUCTION: The Flemish version of the Triage Risk Screening Tool (fTRST), derived from the Triage Risk Screening Tool for assessing risk of readmission to the emergency department, is increasingly used as a simple screening tool in oncology. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of the fTRST in the context of elective surgical treatment for urologic cancer patients. METHODS: We included 886 patients who underwent major urologic cancer surgery at our institution between 2020 and 2022 and underwent preoperative screening, including fTRST...

This retrospective study investigates to analyze the effect of RARC-ERAS nursing program on VTE and other clinical outcomes in patients undergoing RARC surgery. This retrospective study included 216 patients undergoing RARC surgery From January 1, 2022 to December 30, 2023, and propensity score adjustment analysis was applied. The study compares a control group receiving traditional nursing and an observation group receiving RARC-ERAS nursing program...

An inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) is a benign, rare chronic inflammatory process that is destructive to normal histology of the involved organs. While IPT most frequently affects the lung and orbits, it can occur in almost any part of the body. Additionally, histopathological examination is often difficult to interpret, typically showing myofibroblasts and mixed inflammatory and spindle-shaped cells. The histopathological picture may resemble low grade fibrosarcoma with inflammatory cells, making the differentiation between benign and malignant diseases more difficult and potentially requiring specialized histopathological studies...

BACKGROUND: The extent of pelvic lymphadenectomy (PLND) as part of radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer (BC) remains unclear. Sentinel-based and lymphangiographic approaches could lead to reduced morbidity without sacrificing oncologic safety. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: After peritumoral cystoscopic injection of indocyanine green (ICG) 21 patients underwent open RC with FTD due to BC between June 2019 and June 2021...

OBJECTIVE: Hydatid cyst is an endemic disease in Iran. The treatment of choice for paediatric lung hydatid cysts is surgical removal of the cyst. However, due to its high prevalence the risk of recurrence after the surgery, cystectomy with capitonnage, which preserves the lung tissue, is a favourable surgical approach compared to lobectomy. Herein, the authors compared the outcome of cystectomy and lobectomy of lung hydatid cysts. METHODS AND MATERIALS: This is a retrospective study conducted in the paediatric surgery department...

Radical cystectomy is the current treatment of choice for patients with BCG-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder tumor (NMIBC). However, the high comorbidity of this surgery and its effects on the quality of life of patients require the investigation and implementation of bladder-sparing treatment options. These must be evaluated individually by the uro-oncology committee based on the characteristics of the BCG failure, type of tumor, patient preferences and treatment options available in each center. Based on FDA-required oncologic outcomes (6-month complete response rate for CIS: 50%; duration of response in responders for CIS and papillary: 30% at 12 months and 25% at 18 months), there is not currently a strong preference for one treatment over another, although the intravesical route seems to offer less toxicity...

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review is to summarize the current evidence and future perspectives of bladder-sparing treatment for MIBC. METHODS: A non-systematic literature search in Medline/Pubmed was performed in October 2023 with the following keywords "bladder cancer", "bladder-sparing", "trimodal therapy", "chemoradiation", "biomarkers", "immunotherapy", "neoadjuvant chemotherapy", radiotherapy".
