We report the successful application of radioembolization (SIRT) in a 77-year-old man with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis and repeated episodes of macroscopic hematuria due to a large renal cell carcinoma of the right kidney extending to liver segment VI. A compassionate SIRT therapy was performed with resin microspheres through the upper pole renal artery and the feeding segmental artery of liver segment VI. Hematuria was resolved after treatment, and 4 months later, a follow-up CT scan revealed tumor size reduction and complete tumor necrosis (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria)...

A 58-year-old male patient was admitted to Peking University First Hospital (Beijing, China) due to recurrent hematuria, proteinuria and kidney dysfunction. The patient was positive for proteinase-3 (PR3)-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA). Pathology of the kidney showed focal proliferative necrotizing glomerulonephritis with crescent formation and immune complex-mediated glomerulonephritis. The patient was diagnosed with PR3-ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), received intensive immunosuppressive therapy and experienced two relapses within 1 year...

BACKGROUND: Microphthalmia-associated transcription factor/transcription factor E (MiTF/TFE) translocation renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a rare type of non-clear cell RCC (nccRCC), which is more common in females. Currently, there is no standardized treatment for advanced metastatic microphthalmia translocation RCC (MiT-RCC). The main treatment modalities include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, anti-vascular endothelial growth factor or vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) inhibitors, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors, and targeted therapy against the mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) factor signaling pathway...

A 31-year-old female sought termination of pregnancy due to a fetal body stalk anomaly diagnosed at 18 weeks of gestation. Despite an anterior placenta previa, successful vaginal delivery occurred. However, placental adhesion over a previous cesarean scar occurred, and part of the placenta could not be removed. Immediate postpartum bleeding prompted imaging studies, revealing extravasation from adherent placental remnants. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) provided initial hemostasis, but recurrent bleeding necessitated re-embolization...

Immune-related adverse events (IrAEs) involving the bladder are seldom reported and tend to be overlooked by oncologists. Cystitis caused by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is rarely reported, with only four documented instances in the literature, of which just one case is attributed to pembrolizumab. We present a rare occurrence of pembrolizumab-induced hemorrhagic cystitis in a 71-year-old male with stage II-b lung adenocarcinoma with an chronic indwelling Foley catheter. He presented with persistent hematuria despite the completion of a course of antibiotics for a urinary infection; a cystoscopic examination was also normal...

Studies showed that the respiratory is not the only system affected by coronavirus 2, while cardiovascular, digestive, and nervous systems, as well as essential organs such as the kidneys, can be affected by this virus. In this review, we have studied the epidemiology, clinical, and laboratory findings on COVID-19 infection renal involvement, mortality, physiopathology, remaining renal sequels after recovery, underlying renal disease, and renal injury due to its treatment. Also, protective measures for kidney injury are explained in three levels...

Primary malignant melanoma of the genitourinary tract is extremely rare. We present two such cases in elderly Caucasian females. An 81-year-old female with urinary retention and polypoid urinary bladder mass and a 72-year-old female with gross hematuria and urethral caruncle. After thorough evaluation, they were both eventually diagnosed with primary urogenital melanoma (SOX10 and MART1-positive in tumor cells). In both cases, the presence of melanoma- in - situ and absence of primary melanoma in other sites were consistent with primary urogenital melanoma...

In this editorial, we comment on the article by Meng et al published in the World Journal of Clinical Cases. We comprehensively review immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), including epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management. IgAN, also known as Berger's disease, is the most frequent type of primary glomerulonephritis (GN) globally. It is mostly found among the Asian population. The presentation can be variable, from microscopic hematuria to a rapidly progressive GN. Around 50% of patients present with single or recurring episodes of gross hematuria...

CONTEXT: It remains unclear to what extent the therapy of the primary local tumor, such as radical prostatectomy (RP) and radiation therapy (RT), improves overall survival in patients with low-volume metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). However, data suggest a benefit of these therapies in preventing local events secondary to local tumor progression. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of adding local therapy (RP or RT) to systemic therapies, including androgen deprivation therapy, docetaxel, and/or androgen receptor axis-targeted agents, in preventing local events in mHSPC patients compared with systemic therapy alone (ie, without RT of the prostate or RP)...

Human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA) is a tick-borne infection caused by Anaplasma phagocytophilum. Only seven cases of HGA have been reported in Japan to date. We report the case of a 61-year-old female farmer who developed HGA with rash and rhabdomyolysis. The patient had fever and erythema covering the entire body, including the palms. An induration with an eschar was observed on the right leg, indicating that the patient had been bitten by a tick. Elevated serum creatinine and creatinine kinase levels and hematuria indicated rhabdomyolysis...

BACKGROUND RARP is an established procedure in treatment of localized prostate cancer. Hemorrhagic complications in the postoperative period are rare, but sometimes life-threatening. Adequate monitoring and prompt intervention in these unusual scenarios rely on clinical judgement and blood and imaging studies. Prostatic fossa pseudoaneurysm formation after RARP is very rare and its etiology is not well known; it may be related to small vessel trauma. It becomes apparent with the development of hematuria 1-6 weeks after surgery...

This case report details the management of a 66-year-old male with hemophilia A (HA) who presented with recurrent hematuria, and was found to have renal artery aneurysms and was subsequently diagnosed with a renal arteriovenous (AV) shunt. While the primary focus centers on the successful endovascular coil embolization of renal artery aneurysms, the concomitant presence of the AV shunt accentuates the significance of this case. Imaging techniques were crucial in the discovery of renal aneurysms and the diagnosis of the AV shunt malformation of the renal artery...

Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is the most common malignancy of urinary bladder. It is the 9th leading cause of death worldwide and second most common genitourinary malignancy among male. Incidence is increasing in developing countries like Bangladesh. About 80% of patients are found between 50 to 80 years of age. It is 3-4 times more common in male than in female. Determination of therapeutic strategy and prediction of progression of urothelial carcinoma is a major clinical challenge. Treatment of urothelial carcinoma still now mostly depends on pathological stages...
